Optical illusion or legit concern?

So I was outside enjoying this beautiful sunny day, admiring my new LVC of course, and found what appears to be a hairline scratch on the dial or underside of the crystal. However, if viewed at a slightly different angle, the "scratch" disappears......Thoughts?

Legit concern, wow, that's a lot of damage for submariner, you think it could have have internal damage?

I'd send it in to a Rolex Certified Service center for a complete overhaul to put the concerns at ease.

If you are sure that's a scratch, I'd want it fixed but if it is topside then you'll probably have to pay. Marks to crystal do bother me.

I agree I hate scratches on the crystal which is why I didn't keep my 1680 for long. Have a trusted watchmaker take a look with a loupe to see if its crystal or dial.

I have a hairline scratch on my sub that can only be seen in certain lights and was noticed after the crystal had been replaced at service. I took it back to Rolex who assured me that although very slight and very hard to see was on the surface and must have been caused by me after the service. Have to take their word for it!

Hope it's just a surface nick on the crystal. Can't tell in the pics.
Try a little toothpaste or polywatch on the crystal to see if it's just a little nick on there. In many cases it comes right out.
Use a loupe to check if it's the crystal or dial.

def a legit concern since scratches don't show up at every angle

if that was a brand new watch i'd def complain about it

This is common on sunburst dials. My Hulk has the same issue... under perfect lighting conditions with a 10x loupe...

Crystals get scratched. Change at next service. If it's the dial - you should be able to figure that out. I doubt it is.

***UPDATE*** Went back to AD and confirmed it was a hairline scratch on the dial. As luck would have it, they had another LVC and swapped the watch for me and sending the defective one back to Rolex.

Wow that's a great AD. Most would just send it for warranty service. Care to share the name?

Don't look at your newly replacement watch under direct sunlight again!

Tourneau in King of Prussia. Have dealt with them years before they were Rolex there. Probably 15+ years now. I couldn't believe it. Manager and Rolex ambassador told me to go home and get the receipt and warranty card. Extremely happy!!

lifes too short , if thats your only worry in life , ill swap

if its crystal , next service ,,, if its not , in five years your eyes will be less sharp , and you wont have to fret ,,,,
enjoy it for what it is , if you dont you will never wear it , and not enjoy the times you do.

After all the bad comment on Tourneau lately on the forum. It's a good news they just swapped it for a new one.

Enjoy your new Hulk ;)

this is why you never look at dial under a loupe. I've seen worse on other ALOT more expensive watches. I would want that replaced as well.

Perhaps post in "Who's Who" to call out the good treatment by Tourneau in King of Prussia...
Seems we only hear the horror stories associated with the chain and I'm sure the vast majority of buyers are quite happy.

I go there to have a look around from time to time. They're usually nice and helpful. One of the guys recently was kind of a tool, which was disappointing. I may dress casually, but I'm quite successful and I'm a bright fellow, so when you try to make a clever little sarcastic slight, I notice, and I wasn't impressed. The people across the way in the Omega boutique are always fabulous.
