Vintage wear

I am curious whether most of these vintage Rolexes are actually worn or just kept in a nice collection. And if they are generally worn, where does one service and maintain such old watches?

Call me a newbie, but I love the look of vintage watches, but not sure how to care for them.

I daily wear my 40 year old Sub in White. I also have the local AD check it out periodically. It's been serviced and I'll wear it as long as it's functioning.

I wear a vintage (at least 40 years old) Sub every day. Haven't had too much service required yet, but there are plenty of recommended independent guys you can find here on the forum just by asking.

I use an independent CW21 to work on my watches. Vintage or new. Easy access and I trust him. I have worn vintage watches as daily wearers, but it is different for me than wearing a modern watch. Seem to be more cautious and careful with them than with a 6 digit Sub which is easily replaceable.

I have a Tudor Submariner from the 90's. Wear it daily. Service periodically.

I do not wear it swimming or in outdoor activity. Casio Illuminator for that.

Wear it a couple times a week, will use a local independent rolex dealer, when it needs service.

Even my Rolex that are not "vintage" are more than ten years old. Things go wrong, sometimes, but there are qualified watchmakers in our society. They are not plentiful, nor are they all equally skilled, but if you ask around, you can get your watch serviced.

My sub is 50 years old and I wear it at least 2 times a week in rotation...I'm lucky though as my buddy and watchmaker is a CMW21 certified watchmaker and vintage Rolex collector who is about 15 minutes away...he know's what's up and is so reasonable on service, parts etc...its truly insane. I will admit I am a bit more cautious when wearing my vintage pieces though, just because simple things like an original pip of that vintage are insane expensive, even my watchmaker can't get me deals on things such as this as they aren't easy to source or just laying around, however, if say I did need one, he would give me the best deal I'd ever be able to find. It's definitely nice to know that if I do something stupid, he can correct it for a fraction of what it would normally cost. Interestingly, I'm trying to source a box set for my MF 5513, and he doesn't even have one available...the hunt continues.

Got a great cw21 watchmaker local that does all my work... I wear vintage whenever I feel like it but I definitely wear modern pieces just as often. Never hesitated to wear vintage fearing wear and tear though.

I wear a 35-year-old GMT daily. As far as having it serviced, any watchmaker should be capable of servicing a vintage Rolex.

I'm wearing a 1959 Oyster Precision 6424 today. Wore it to the pub last night too. My watchmaker can sort me out if anything breaks but I buy my watches to wear, not imprison in a steel box for decades. That's what you do with bullion

I wear a 45+yr old 2.1m (IV 68) GMT every day. I was in a rush and forgot it at home the other day and it was devastating. Here's a live shot.

Vintage wear

Don't know if 26 years old is "vintage" but I wear my 16233 Rolex Datejust the most out of my very modest rotation of 3 watches. I had mine serviced at the Watch Buyer's Group in Pasadena CA.

Vintage Rolexes can definitely be daily wearers without any concerns as long as they are properly serviced and cared for, but that goes for modern timepieces too.

My 5512 Sub has been going strong since 1972. Had the movement serviced about 5 years ago and it still keeps time within COSC standards.

49 years old and I wear it about 5 days a week, serviced it myself a few months ago and it's running great.

Would agree particularly with the four digit vintage - no point in subjecting them to anything unnecessarily rough. Am also careful re water - no need to risk it when I can use a more modern one for that.
