a question regarding bezels
Hi folks,
As I declared I've just picked up a sub date LV. The question I ask is would it be possible to swap out the green bezel ring and change for a black one? I'm not intending to do so but I wondered if they were interchangeable and if not, why not? Oh - one more thing - whats the name of that ultra fine polishing cloth that smells of vanilla? it's been on the tip of my tongue all day and it's not coming to me!. |

You can and if it's ceramic would be expensive and hard to find. If non ceramic easy and cheap.

Cape Cod!! Thank you!!
and - my LV is 2006 so it will have the aluminium bezel insert. And thanks. I just wondered. Having lived with it for a few days now it's terribly showy compared to my usual daily beater of the Airking. That was my main attraction to the Airking - so understated but incredibly well engineered. Don't get me wrong - I love my new Sub - I just am not used to wearing something that screams " Look! I'm wearing a Rolex!". I don't think my other one was ever remarked to me 5 times in the 10 years I wore it. I liked that. I do feel slightly sad it's not being worn - maybe I should find a reason to doff it occasionally! |

Yep, the insert is an easy swap. I actually did that with my very first LV years ago, as I wanted a maxi dial with the classic black dial/bezel combo, but didn't initially like the larger case profile of the newer ceramic Sub.
Keeping the original ($$$) green insert tucked away in pristine condition was a nice side benefit as well. Oh, and just my $0.02, but I'd keep the Cape Cod away from the watch. YMMV... ![]() ![]() |

I wasn't planning on using it on the sub - but I remember I had some when I lived in the Uk - Im now resident in the US and was meaning to use it on some of the wear on my Airking, now that it's 'resting'. I never did. So not good to use on the watch? I might have used it!
It would never be my intent to get rid of the patina acquired through wear, but I think I've marks on the strap that are a bit obvious. Thanks! |

No harm in changing them out. Obviously you'd want to keep the original, and I'd source an original black insert (as opposed to aftermarket) for the swap as well.
I've since warmed up a bit to the ceramic Sub, but I still feel the size/proportions of the 5-digit Subs are hard to beat. So, the LV with a black bezel insert is still a great combo IMO: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yes, easy switch. Source original parts, of course.

I asked similar question here for my SubC. Aluminium bezels can be switched over but not the ceramic ones.
