My AP warranty - your input required

So I just bought a AP recently from the gray market.... and I have a question regarding the warranty.

As you all know there are 3 leaflets in the warranty book. One is for the client/ customer.... second for the retailer.... and third is for registration, and all 3 are clearly market on leaflets.... Now when you buy an AP from an AD they tear off the second leaflet which says retailer and keep it with them and give the rest of the book back to you...I'm not sure what they do with that leaflet.

Now when I got my watch from the gray market.... it has retailer name on it and is also stamped but not signed.... and also the "retailer". Leaflet is still in the booklet meaning the retailer didn't take it out...

So is my warranty valid? Is everything ok? Can I also register my watch online or using the 3rd leaflet?

Thanks in advance for you feedback

Being a gray market watch, there's a good chance your watch has no valid warranty. You could try registering the watch online, thenprocess only takes a couple minutes.

I would reach out to the seller to ask these questions though. actually I would have asked these questions before committing to the purchase.

I had all 3 in my book stamped and only the first page dated. I registered my watch online, and had no issues with getting AP to do warranty work on it.

Is the retailer an AD? If so, you are fine.

From what you described you did not buy a grey market watch, you simply bought from a reseller (who bought it from an authorized dealer). That is perfectly fine.

That’s the precise definition of a grey market purchase, Serg.

Yes a reseller will have bought from an AD and so the stamp will be there. Grey would mean there's no paperwork and no warranty, maybe for import tax reasons.

I agree with the suggestions to register the watch on AP's website (easy) then shoot an email over to Clearwater (if you reside in the US) to check on warranty validity and service history. Those guys are very, very good at customer service and will answer all of your questions. I was super impressed when I did all of this.

Not quite. It is more like Neil says above.

Grey market refers to an unofficial channel where there is no warranty or the warranty is not valid in the region (such as it happens when you buy a grey market Nikon in the US ... these are imports with a warranty that will not be honored by Nikon USA). AP warranty is international and transferable. If a reseller buys from an AD, and the booklet is properly stamped then this is not grey market and the OP is 100% kosher by registering his watch on the AP site.

I guess I had the definition of gray dealer wrong then.. I meant a reseller since all paper work is complete including AD name, stamp and date... just signature is missing

I think you can register from the AP homepage under "Service". I just got a RO from an AD and I'm waiting for delivery to register mine.

Yes, and black market would mean stolen, but sadly could still come with box and papers, so trusting the seller is so important, altho for AP hopefully when registering this will come up.

It says in the booklet that you have to get your watch pressure tested after 2 years for the warranty to be valid in the 3rd year

Not anymore. Once you register the watch on the AP website, the 3rd year automatically kicks in now.
