New Rolex owner! 1973 16014
Hello all,
New member here and I am very excited that I have purchased my first Rolex. A vintage datejust 1601 blue linen dial. The vintage dj has never been on my radar because I always had my eyes on the new sub ND. But ever since I received it, I am blown away by how well the watch is built considering how long ago the watch was made. I have been wearing it for 2 days and so far it only gained about 2 seconds! Very impressive. Now onto the few questions that I have in regards of the watch. - when I was adjusting the time, I noticed that the second hand jumps back about 3 seconds if I turn the minute hand backward. And the second hand will return to the original position once I turn the minute hand clockwise. Is this behavior normal? - I purchased this watch without knowing the history of it. The only thing I have is it came with a service card that is dated back in 2012. So I am thinking it was last serviced in 2012. By looking at the watch, it seems the hands are replaced because they look new. The watch has been polished. (not sure if this is a bad thing or not as I never bought any used watch before, despite vintage ones). The bracelet I believe is polished as well judging from the look of the folded links. I have done some research on how to obtain service history of the watch. A lot of people say the only way to find out is to send it to Rolex for service and they will tell you the history. Is it my only option? - last but not least, the most asked question would be, is this 1601 real? I know it is hard to tell without having a look at the movement (that's my next thing to do on the list, to visit a watchmaker and have him inspect the watch). But if you guys look at the pictures and should have a rough idea whether I got the real deal or not right? I will have more questions later on as I learn more about this model or any Rolex in general. Thank you very much in advance. Any input is greatly appreciated!! |
