Omega Speedmaster Tintin

What is your opinion about Speedmaster Tintin reference 311.30.42.30.01.004?

Is it popular among Omega fans that may have a chance to become collectible in the future or it is just another among many variations of Moonwatch ?

I have read story about Omega plans to celebrate Tintin moon landing with small rocket printed on the dail which was rejected by publisher but not sure if this and the fact that nobody knows how many of them were produced will make this particular model desirable.

Long time Rolex and Panerai user I am new into Omega and would like to hear and learn more about this particular watch.

Thank you very much for feedback.

For all who have not seen watch or maybe forgotten a reference photo below.

You know, I would have liked this watch had I not known.

I'm ambivalent on this one. But I know it's extremely popular amongst speedy guys.

The Tintin's popularity is a fairly recent phenomenon (late 2015 till now) as the watch was launched quietly at Basel 2013 with very limited appeal. It will most likely increase in value over time. Estimates production numbers are between 1000-5000 units. Fairly hard to find in the states right now but they do pop up from time to time in boutiques. Much higher prevalence in Asian markets now. Beautiful watch IMO and definitely on my list of keepers.

I bought one on the second hand market a few months ago. It is a special watch to me. As a kid I loved the adventures of Tintin series and objectif lune was one of my favourites. I really love the dial. Not sure about the long-term value etc but it definitely a watch I am very happy to hold on to.

I too hated it at first, but the more I see it the more I like it. So that means that within a year I will own the watch I started out loathing.

I must confess that I am somewhat confused by the never-ending variety of Speedmasters. Aside from the complicated numeric designations, Rolex seems a bit simpler, Omega seems to want to create an infinite number of models. I think that this is a valid marketing strategy, but I am re-considering a Speedy purchase due to overload of choices. Sorry if I am hijacking this thread, but seeing yet another beautiful Speedy seemed to motivate my question (or, state of confusion). Bottom line, OP's watch is a beauty. "So many watches, so little time".

Agree. they been surfing Moon watch wave for very long time and years to come.

This one however is keep growing on me. Mostly due to racing type dial.

I really like Schumacher racing editions but 311.30.42.30.01.004 is equipped with manually winding Lemania based movement and Hesalite instead of crystal makes it a true classic set with interesting racing face.

Truly Speedmaster started as motor-racing watch and only years later become moon watch.

Sorry to bump, but wanted to know if people have seen any ADs that have this still?

I find myself liking this one a lot and would love to source one at a good px. Going to Tokyo soon, where I've heard some ADs still have some in stock...

I've had one twice over the past year and a half and sold both shortly after. The dial is cool, hand painted red/white track, but the novelty wore off. In the end I still think the one to have is the standard Moonwatch (3570.50 or new .005) with Hesalite crystal.

I love the Omega Speedmaster and I love Tintin Destination Moon (Herge's masterpiece) - the watch is interesting but on the whole, no - I like to keep to the original Moonwatch.

In the next 2 days I will be deciding weather or not to buy a NOS from a retailer here in Tokyo. The price seems good. And it's about time I owned a speedy.

I bought mine in Kyoto. I was also on the fence but when pulled trigger never regretted it. My kids love it as well.

Speedy guys love it. I vividly remember the bande dessine cover of Tintin on which this is based off of so it kind of checks a lot of boxes for me!

The Tintin is fantastic, the watch, the new movie(s), yes! And the strange history behind this watch is worth mentioning too. Omega wanted to have a Tintin case back but there was a disagreement with the Remi estate, so it's all unofficial now.

As for Omega making lots of different models, that's what they've always done, not a new thing.

I watched and read Kuifje (TinTin) as a kid, him going to the moon was definitely one of my favourites.

I like the TinTin limited edition but it would not be my first choice if I were looking for a Speedmaster.

Buy it if you want it and dont worry what anyone else thinks. You're the one that has to live with it. But I think its cool. I like wearing stuff that you dont see too often on other people's wrist.

I really love the Tin Tin but I often wonder if the white red will seem too busy over time. Thoughts?

It looks much better on your wrist than in pictures.

No, it's Tin Tin. You need a Disney watch to get Goofy on the dial.
