Jinhao sea shell 650 incoming...

First impression is this is a big pen! It dwarfs my Monteverde Regatta of which I felt was a pretty big pen. Pictures don't describe this but it's big! The nib is the same 2 tone #6 medium as seen on the X450 and it works great. I've done no work to this nib either. No issues so far. The sea shell inlays are encapsulated under a flexible sealant of some sort that was a little dull when I received the pen so I polished the body with Zymol car polish and it looks good now. The inlayed shell is not exactly perfectly aligned but it's good for a $15 pen. You would have to really scrutinize it by eye close up to see any misalignment. At writing distance, it looks fine. The cap is a push pull type and is tight to start with but is breaking in. I still much prefer my red ice X450 but this is a cool pen! I have another 650 in silver trim coming next week as well. This pen is a unique piece despite the price and that's what drew me to it. My Xezo sea shell pen was the next most "affordable" sea shell pen outside of China I could find and that was about 12x more expensive. You get more sea shell but the Schmidt nib is on par with the Jinhao. This pen is absolutely worth having at the price point. These Jinhao's are a microcosm in my collection. They're off the wall pens made of peculiar materials at an insignificant price that are extremely usable and write very well. I've had a great time collecting and writing with them so far!

They do a good job on many of their pens! This is one of them.

And the price is most definitely right!

Thanks guys! This Jinhao thing has been fun! There's virtually no risk as the cost is so low and the designs are very interesting. It's like going to harbor freight for all the completely off the wall tools that are absolutely useful but no US manufacturer would even bother to make. I went through the Jinhao catalog and found 10 more pens I'm on the hunt for. One is an all silver guilloche that looks along the lines of a YOL
