Watch winders

Hi all

Is it better to have your Rolex in a watch winder for weeks at a time or let the watch stop and start it up again.

Thanks

G

Personal preference. There is no right or wrong about winders.

Comfort-wise I understand. But is there really an advantage mechanical-wise? Is it actually better for the movement? As a layman, I'm thinking winders will make the movement age or wear and tear faster?

Would this be one of the most frequently asked questions on TRF?

As PADI might say...

Why you need a machine to wind your watch only you know why but attached to your arms are two of the finest winders in the world called wrists And thats what the watch was designed for and it makes no difference which way its set as it winds in both directions

Why would you leave it running for "weeks at a time" on a winder?

Winder or wrist, it doesn't really matter depending on how much you move during the day. But, if you have multiple watches and don't want to worry about resetting one when you decide to wear it, a winder is your only choice.

I don't really see why this is considered a big deal to some people. I guess as a someone who repairs watches I find somewhat of a pleasure in setting a watch. Working the functions, etc. I mean, it's one of the few times your truly get to interact with your timepiece.

Everyone wants instant, automatic, etc these days. I get people all the time that like to boast about their watch, but come DST or something, they don't even know how to adjust it. Isn't it more than just a piece of jewelry?

Grab and Go. No winding or setting date and time.

This question has been asked and answered innumerable times here. Do a search on "winder" and you'll find all the information you could ever want. Bottom line: There is no single answer to this question. Some members say they are not needed, while others of us swear by them.
