Sub needing service?

I have an early 90's sub and was thinking of getting it serviced. It still keeps good time. The only things I can say is wrong with it are the Lume has gone, the bracelet has stretched a little and if I turn the crown to fast when winding it slips a bit. This is my only "older" watch as I have got all my others from new. None of what I have mentioned bothers me apart from the crown problem but I have a winder so that is not really a problem and it never goes in the water.
Should I get it serviced and how much does a service cost?

That sounds like a real character watch, do you have any photos?

The winding problem would probably bother me so I would want to get that sorted out, but I don't know where I would take it to be done. I suspect that if you took it to Rolex to service the watch might loose some of it's character.

I hope you get it sorted out, or just continue to enjoy wearing it.

Just don't do anything to the lume, faded tritium adds character ant vintage-value.

If still keeping good time I would leave it alone. When the time comes I would only service the movement and have the bracelet fixed.

Personally if it is slipping when winding I'd get it serviced. Not sure where you are in the UK but you can go to St James' or Kent and discuss in person with RSC staff. If you are too far away then you can drop it at any AD for them to send to RSC for service. The advantage in taking direct to the RSC is that they will then deal with you direct but take it to an AD and the RSC will do all communication via them. Not sure of the basic cost of a service now, I think around £450-500 but others will probably be able to advise. If you do decide on a service specify clearly in writing what you want done. If you have the original tritium dial and hands I'd want to insist on them not being replaced and likewise the bezel insert is probably best retained. Some before and after photo's would be good. Good luck

/\ This /\

I'm looking at early 90's subs for my next, just for the Tritium look, and have passed by most due to the parts having been changed for modern lume.

Contact Vanessa, she did a great job on my 16618 at a reasonable price and quick turnaround. She has many reviews and happy customers on this forum.

Agreed. A Replacement would be the likely suggestion.

If it is keeping good time, I probably wouldn't service it unless it does not pass a pressure test.
Look up classic watch repair (M.Y.) online for bracelet restoration.

Thanks for all the feedback, here's a couple of pics, one of the set and one of the watch. The watch is 1991 and after what has been said I am thinking I will leave it alone for a while.

Very nice full set and great condition. If/when serviced I'd ask for dial, hands, bezel insert not to be replaced and case not to be polished

The voice of reason. This I would do most definitely.
