Caremic Daytona white dial seen in store.
Yeah it's above RRP as expected but it is less than I've seen them going for (usually £15,000+).
Depends how much you want one. This is £13,500... This is at Beaugems London.

While their are still fools willing to pay crazy prices for what in the real world is the old Daytona with a ceramic bezel and slightly different dials ,most all sold will be flipped to the grey for profit or greed.

Yeah while they are hard to get from a AD, the new preowned will always be the case. Especially when you can get a £4K+ profit. It is a good looking watch though..

While technically you are somewhat correct, the physical characteristics of the Daytona have changed drastically, it looks like a very different watch now. Of primary note is that the black bezel on the black Daytona C pulls the dial of the watch forward and through the bezel, it changes the whole dynamic, feels just like what we love about the Submariner- a huge disc of black exploding atop a steel bracelet. In the top photo comparing the 500 to the 520 it's very easy to see, the black dial that was pulled inwards and made to look small in a sea of stainless is now blooming outwards and dominating the design. And this is also why there has been a shift from the "oh it looks like a panda" white dial to the "wow it looks like a Submariner" black dial in recent months. The white Daytona C misses out on the black's dominance over the steel because the dial is a different color, it doesn't blend with the bezel, so the white dial doesn't get pulled outwards to explode over the bracelet like the black Daytona C does. See lower photo. Point being, the bezel matters a lot, it's not an insignificant change to be disregarded so flippantly as you've done the past year. The Daytona has gone from a watch many of us never wanted to something we must have now. There isn't much to a watch to begin with, a major bezel change can (does) make an enormous difference. |

His advice for other people was to visit your AD often and ask in person. YMMV of course. |

While I don't understand your description I do agree with the last paragraph. It became a must have and the ceramic does make a difference! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's the only modern Daytona dial that's legible to me.

Point I'm trying to make is that the Black Daytona C now looks like the big brother to the Submariner, same feel, more complications. I'll try to post some photos later today to illustrate the point more effectively. |

I don't think Ive EVER seen anyone pound a subject in the ground more than this! Why take every single opportunity to point out your feelings on this watch and how you don't approve of it. Give it a rest!! Oh and if you are just mad you cant get one, Ill place a call for you......

Exactly right. The value is not determined by MSRP, it's determined by what a potential customer will pay for it. No one seems to bat an eyelash when a used 5513 sells for $20,000 over its list price but somehow it's unacceptable for a new Daytona which has far fewer units in circulation to sell for $3,500 over list. And that's all it is right now. That's why I bought my way off the waiting list after a year. The delta between list price plus tax and grey market price is down to $3,500 in the US which was the value of a Datejust I only wore 5x a year and I decided better to have full enjoyment of a desirable watch I'd wear every day than stand on ceremony and subscribe to some principle about Rolex production and value equation. It's May, it's Spring, warm weather is here, I've got a beautiful 500LN, so what if the cost of my impatience is a DJ I don't wear? If I'm a fool, I'm a happy one. |

It's a beautiful watch, no doubt. But, I would need to sell my home in order to afford one!
j/k!

100% in Agreement with Padi. Fortunately I got one of the first ones delivered. But I must also say that I've been tempted to go gray market for some pieces that are just impossible to get. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Very well said. I sure wish the insanity would stop. Just as insane is someone paying insane markup on the market for used and out of warranty 116520s.

I don't know why it's insanity, it's a rare luxury good and no one is getting hurt here.
Those who get them at MSRP are happy, those who flip them grey make a tidy profit and are happy, and those who have no AD clout and are stuck on a 5 year waitlist can open their wallets a tad wider and within 24 hours they're happy. I don't consider myself a fool or insane for paying a $3,500 vig for the world's most desirable watch. All it cost me was an old Datejust I never wore. I consider myself quite smart, actually. |
