Perfect symmetry

Dear TRF, everyday I read the forum, and everyday people talk a lot about the perfect symmetry of the sub no date. Today while I wore my 2 year old Explorer I, I thought to myself that this might be even more symmetric than the sub no date. One thing that the sub is unsymmetrical is its bezel, the explorer doesn't have that problem. Besides, the explorer is the reason the sub exists in the first place and even earlier models have the 3-6-9 on the dial.
So what do you think?

Hmmm,

IMO when I think about watch symmetry I am referring to the dial and my SubC dial trumps the Explorers 3 - 6 - 9.

Now if they were batons?

The concept of symmetry varies from person to person..

As and old adage says, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

If you consider your explorer symmetrical, kudos for you.

Best regards,

Exactly! Besides, I have small wrists and my explorer sits there perfectly. Not sure about subs though.

I love the simplicity and elegance of the 1016 but I would probably choose a modern ND Sub over a modern Exp I.

I'll throw in the OP as a contender for most symmetrical dial.

Also it's just a Sub.

Why do you think the bezel on the Sub is asymmetrical?

I think the bezel is fairly well balanced

On the Explorer, it's probably my OCD showing, but now I can't stop noticing that the bottoms of the 3 and 9 both point in the same direction. If Rolex would flip one backwards, that would solve the lack of symmetry.

Have to tear off the crown to make it symmetrical around the 12 o'clock position. Just depends how far you want to take the "symmetry" equation.

Disagree, the 1-14 minute markers throw off the symmetry. If they went all the way around I'd agree.

If I really wanted symmetry I'd buy a stick marker only model. Not a big deal for me.

I kind of agree Neil. A bit of asymmetry isn't a bad thing

Love my No Date for that exact reason! Love the balance of the dial.

I'm not sure I understand this assertion.

I do agree that the Explorer is a beautiful watch, though, and I'm especially fond of my 114270.

What I meant here that the original submariner aka the symmetric one, had the 3-6-9 on its dials before it turned into batons.
