"Mother's Day" a New Perspective
Every year it starts a week or two before the day. Her dispassionate pleas of "don't do anything fancy", or "I don't need anything special" fall on deaf ears. Always concerned about how much it costs us or not wanting to be an inconvenience. Always thinking of us not her. Nothing new for our mother.
Of course after a full day of entertainment & laughter ending with a diner at her favorite spot she always tells us it was a lovely day and how lucky she feels to have such wonderful and loving children. This year will be different. Unfortunately you see she passed last October and for the first time in my life I won't be celebrating mother's day. Although I admit to being very melancholy tonight I didn't write this thread to express my personally sadness. Rather I would like to solicit a promise from all my fellow TRF forum brothers and sisters. Promise me that all of you who still have your mother with you will reach out to her and make tomorrow a day for both of you to appreciate what you have. Nothing would make me happier. Love you Mom. Your Son Rick

I too am in the same boat... I have not told many people here but my Mother passed away on February 19th 2017 at 75 years old and I am spending my first Mother's Day in 53 years without her. I wrote this in her Obituary: "It is hard to believe it is true; I lost a Mother and a best friend who I stood next to no matter what. Her sense of humor, guidance, support, advice, our secret handshake and special bond will be deeply missed. Mom, I LOVE YOU so much and my life has been forever altered by your passing." My Mother and I were best friends and we talked almost everyday. I am very sad that I can't pick up the phone and just talk to her or fly into town and surprise her. CALL Your Mother, Send her a card and go to visit her this Mother's Day. You never know when it will be the last one for both of you!

Brenngun...My empathy is with you, sir. I know it is hard to lose someone dear. Memories are treasures, and I hope you can do something nice tomorrow for yourself that your Mother would have liked to accompanied you on.
Mothers are special. We are indebted to them for their sacrifices, joy, love, encouragement, strength, talents, endurance, resilience, faith, loyalty, support, leadership, respect, grace, caring, kindness, generosity, selflessness, patience, ethics and morals: the list is never ending. My Mother was humble about her exceptional 'motherhood' qualities, and expressed sentiments similar to your Mother's. However, she no longer knows what Mother's Day means; alas, doesn't respond to her first name. Regardless, I don't quit even though her recognition has long gone. Blessings, DM

Very sad to read this.
In tears... So,I am very lucky to still have my mother(and mother in law). My father died in my arms when I was 29 and he was 53.CPR... Rick and Larry,my heart goes out to both of you. This day will always be difficult. The first one is the hardest. I remember going to buy cards for my grandfather when my father,my hero,my rock was gone. Wish I had some words of wisdom to share or help. |

Guys, I'm so sorry for your losses. Like Larry, my Mom is my best friend. We talk nearly every day. My heart breaks for you.
I hope you all find peace and comfort in those around you. While TRF is virtual, many of us have gotten to know each other personally. Our sentiments for you are real. Thoughts and prayers to you all.

By 4:00 tomorrow, I'll have put in close to 70 hours this week.
But I'll still be heading over to my mother's to make dinner when I'm done. Penne and sausage, one of her favorites.

Rick and Larry, my condolences to both on your mother's passing. I know the feeling, and as mentioned above the first is the hardest. i suggest to remember some of the great times you had with your mother tomorrow. That's what I do and it puts a smile on my face, even though my heart still hurts.

So sorry for your loss. My mom is everything for me since dad died when I was only 1. She practically made the man I am today.
Thank you so much for this thread and may God bless her soul. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rick and Larry, my deepest sympathies. Both of your mothers are smiling down on you right now, don't ever forget that. A little piece of her will always be with you.
God Bless

Rick,
I will do just that, my friend. Although my mom won't know what's going on today due to Alzheimers. But I don't dwell on that. I'd rather reflect on how blessed I've been with the best parents anyone could ever hope to have. They've just had their 65th wedding anniversary. You're a good son who has made his mother very proud. dP

I'm so lucky in having both parents in their 70s and in rude health and working everyday. It's so touching to read these posts. Mother's Day is March in the U.K. and we did celebrate. I'm thankful everyday. Have a wonderful day

I am sorry for your losses; we all agree that calling and visiting TODAY, either mother's day or not, is something that we should do. Always!
Keep them in your memories and smile; moms love to see us smile; wherever they are. |

Very sorry to hear of your loss guys. For Mother's Day we took our Mum to a top Japanese restaurant and consequently spent more than we ever had before, even more than in Gordon Ramsey or Heston Blumental's 3 star places, and as an extra special treat for my Mum's very special day, I even paid for myself.

Have Good thoughts guys, my mom was diagnosed with a disease and 2 weeks later in the hospice sitting right next to her, she passed with a smile cause her 19 year in bound college granddaughter and I were right with here.
Father's Day Will be just as hard this year I dint even want to think about it. The last 2 years before his passing I was with my father everyday, enjoyed every bit of it. All the stuff he'd do for no reason, try to take the car, call for my mom who had passed earlier, chase the live in house keeper around like he was 17.. Funny Dies in my arms too glad I was there. Always will wonder if putting him in a care facility during his last few months was the right thing to do. But I didn't want him to fall down stairs or burn the house down as he declined though. I miss them so much
