Mother of Pearl
i´m just now discussing the next Rolex for the Lady.
We have agreed, since she already owns a YG Ladies Model without date, on a Mid Size DJ ( 6 digit serial number ) in SS with Oyster band and waffeled WG Bezel. Question is the dial. She doesn´t like "bling", so the Diamond versions are "out". :-( ( I would have LOVED the "Rolex" all over the dial with Diamonds ) Now we discovered, that the MOP ( Mother of pearl is nearly as expensive as the Diamond types. Of course, MOP AND Diamonds beat all else ;-) We were told that MOP is such expensive, because of this being so thin and such a lot of dials being broken at manufacture!?! Is this BS? How are the MOP dials holding up? Colours degrading? Dials breaking? Your suggestions and experiences, please. Thanks, H |

I have a Black MOP Yacht-Master that I just purchased last month and the MOP dial seems to cost about $1200.00 - $1800.00 more than the more common dials.
I immensely enjoy the MOP dial on my YM and find it more than worth the extra cost as the watch changes with every angle. The changing purples, greens, reds, blues and ... really makes the timepiece take on a new personality. I don't believe it is BS as I used to be a jeweler of sorts and working with MOP was extremely difficult. I do believe that Rolex backs their MOP on precious metals which will make them more robust, but getting them to that point would be very difficult in my opinion. Here are a few photos of the Black MOP dial on a YM. Hope this helps.

I have also heard that MOP is difficult to work with and it is one of the few dials that the US RSC's will not add, I was looking at adding a MOP to my wifes DJ . I have not seen any indication that MOP dials are having the problems you are concerned about...take your time choosing the dial you like, as they are all very unique.

When the MOP dials are backed to the precious metals the should be totally stable. I wouldn't worry about it.

JJ is a big boy. I am sure that he understands that a compliment to one YM is a compliment to all. Thank you for the kind comments!

I'm a big fan of the pearls. Here are some pictures of mine and wifes.
Yes each one is unique. I have had some of them for years and noticed no color fade or other problems. |

Oooohhh!!
Is that black Onyx, which I first noticed ( and LOVED ) by one Lady at this site ( thanks for the pics of your TT YM! ) a regular option with Rolex, or a special order item, or only available with the YM?? ( I want that!!! The Combo of Diamonds and Onyx is STRIKING!!! ) ( of course, with the black mop only Diamonds are possible - this calls for even one more Rolex! ) If I had the money ... I´d go broke on Rollies ... Hermann P.S.: and what the H... are those rosy stones??? For Rubies it´s a touch to "rosy", rather than "deep red". Is it? |
