Help Identifying this Tudor

Dear Rolex Forum!

If the image breaks the link is here:

I have something special for today. It is my grand-dad's Tudor Vintage Submariner that I have some trouble identifying.

My grandfather was wearing this vintage tudor submariner that I have trouble identifying. I think its the 79xx series looking from the dial pattern. He did mention he might have changed the case for this but he is not sure if he did change it or not. Cause there were 79xx references without the crown guard and some with. So we are both unsure which this actually belonged to.

Funny thing is, I've never seen a tudor submariner 79xx with a date! And neither can I google one. Esp in the 79xx series of dial designs and all. When did tudor start releasing movements with a date complication, could that be a tell tale sign? :)

Also, I've noticed the dial has is missing the dash on the "Self Winding". BUT before you dismiss it as a fake, I have found a reputable (i hope) seller on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-Tudor-...26.m2548.l4275 that is selling a 7928 that does not have the dash as well. Would the no dash be a tell tale sign of anything at all? perhaps a service dial or...?

Would be great if you guys could shed some light on this piece!

Many many thanks in advance!

Cheers!
