16710 Coke
Just bought a 16710, coke insert, dates to 1989. New to these, so thought I'd better ask first..... want to change the insert to a Pepsi. Having a hard time finding Pepsi inserts that reference 16710. Would other reference numbers fit?

Just go to any Rolex AD they could order you one cost around $75.

Go to an AD or RSC and you'll be fine

How do you change the insert? Can it be a DYI thing?

Lots of tutorials here and on youtube.
Warning. Changing inserts is not like changing underwear. Your watch was not meant to have the bezel popped on / off repeatedly. Eventually metal on the case will wear and your bezel won't fit as snugly as it should. YMMV Just saying... |

I tried 4 AD's in the New Orleans area and not one would order an insert for me, when I had mine. Was very frustrating.

Old information. Rolex has become obnoxious with parts flow as of late. Could not order a bezel to replace Pepsi with Coke. They only offered to send it to RSC and there was still no guarantee they would do it short of requiring a full service. Tried 3 ADs and onw boutique

I don't think (most) US ADs will sell you parts in this manner. |

It is a matter of $$$$$$$$$$ period. I called RSC the other day to price out a rotating bezel for my GMT 18K which I feel it is worn out at the knurlings, they promised that they will call me back with price in 30 min. I am still waiting... grrr

The RSC will not sell you just a insert anymore. They will want to replace your current one for a new one. Also, more recently if you say your insert fell out or got lost, now they want to service your watch and figure out why it did. I guess too many people tried the "I don't know how I lost my insert?" line. I recently acquired all three bezels for my 16710 and had to pay premiums on all the inserts. If you don't mind take your watch to the AD and have it replaced.

There is yet another option. Find an independent watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. Shouldn't cost more than $120 or so. They will be far more accommodating than most ADs or an RSC. For instance, you won't have any problem being able to retain your original insert in addition to the new one. Experiences with RSC are mixed on that score.

My AD installed my black insert replacing my faded Pepsi for $90. I was thinking we have a Coke and a Pepsi and a black ,,,, how about calling the black a JD (Jack Daniels) ? Yes,No,, just saying.

I went to RSC in NYC about 3 months ago. Like $78 with tax and I got to keep my original.

My AD here in Madison, WI claimed that they would have to send Rolex my serial number and Rolex would then send them the insert that came with the watch. I tried to get a pepsi insert from them 2 years ago when I bought my 16710. Mine came from Rolex with a black insert, I ended up buying both coke and pepsi at a premium via sellers here. I really enjoy having all three and always recommend that to other GMT folks.

16710 Coke
So the answer to getting an insert is...try your luck at a local AD, indie watchmaker with a parts account and pay a (relatively) nominal fee.
If the foregoing fails, buy an insert off a forum or other unofficial channel - but you'll have to pay more. |
