How is modern men's datejust configured?
I've read articles, threads, and seen videos all stating two tone watches are out. There are definitely fewer two tone watches being offered by manufacturers than in the past.
When I think of the Rolex that represents the 80's and the early 90's, it's the datejust , two tone jubilee, gold fluted, champagne dial. If the modern day datejust has been redefined as non two tone, what does it look like? And what are your thoughts. Jim

TT Datejusts were the Thing in the 80's, but they never really went out of style (although many prefer all SS or White Gold these days). I personally prefer silver toned watches, but if TT is your thing, go for it.

I know on this forum the blue sunburst dials are killing it, so I'd pick that.

There are many DateJusts, but this one is mine:
It's not really representative of any "modern configuration," but it's the one I like best.

Saw a two tone DJ on a young man of 20 - the watch had been his fathers. The 36mm wore well on his average size wrist but I think it was the two tone oyster bracelet that did the trick - made it look more sporty and youthful, but YMMV

TT DJ on jubilee hasn't really gone out of style so to speak, in my opinion. I see several each month when I'm out and about, not including my own that still gets good wrist time. That said, I've got a SS on oyster that I wear equally as often, but I see far fewer of those in public. I do love the SS jubilee and it will likely be my next piece.

I'm not a fan of TT watches, but I think Rolex has done a great job of modernizing TT configurations.
Outside of the DJ lineup, The 116713 and 116613 are great watches. Also the newer Rose Gold and SS yachtmaster is beautiful. As for Datejusts, I think the Rose Gold , SS and Chocolate dial is absolutely incredible, especially in the DJ41 size. There are a lot of very realistic TT options even for folks like me who previously would have never considered one. Another honorable mention is the YG and SS Daytona with racing dials, both panda and blue. |
