Negotiating with AD on a Deepsea

Been talking with this authorized dealer in another state (no tax) and they stated that they can work on the full retail price of $12,050 given I pay cash.

I am not much of a negotiator, where should I start the negotiations and where should I stop?

I know this question is subjective depending upon how bad I want the watch etc.

I know that Davidsw is selling a Deepsea basically brand new for around $9,800(ish). But would rather buy from a AD

Thanks for any insight
Cheers

That's over $2k difference in price between the AD and Davidsw price. I would be inclined to spend no more than $11k on the AD one if you can get a nice used one for under $10k

Based on above, I'd be inclined to go in at 10500.00 cash firm.

If not, you know where you can buy the same watch right now.

well the AD is saving around 4% in credit card fees if you pay in cash. So retail paying with a CC of $12050 gives the same profit to the AD as paying cash of approx. $11,500. So thats your starting point before negotiating a discount. As the first 4%-ish doesn't start to affect the AD's profit margin with a cash purchase.

yeah they are just acting like they are giving you a deal.

Take the stack of cash with you and set it on the table, Say, this is all I have and I would like to buy today. Otherwise just buy a used one with a card, the new one will get scratched up eventually

In the USA over 10,000 cash purchase requires IRS paperwork

Surprising what seeing the cash sat there does to a seller. Whether it will work on an AD who won't be physically pocketing the cash themselves is a different matter.

if the money isn't laundered it's no biggie. The business fills out the form so you don't really have to do anything but provide your taxpayer identification number. There would be paperwork done at your bank too if you withdraw 10,000 cash.

Personally i would pay with a card. 10,000+ membership rewards points, thats my discount.

I would buy preowned. You can find for about $8500. That difference is a nice Tudor.

I'd pay 10.5, 11 if I loved the AD and wanted to build a relationship.

Cash gives you a better chance of a discount though

What is the difference between that and a deep blue in retail? He seems really high based on what I paid New for my deep blue.

Many AD would not do a CC sale over the internet due to the fact that anyone could try to cancel the sale and then it becomes a hassle.

About $400. All the D Blue is is a dial option.

I would try to stick as close to $10,500 as you can. As long as it is legit let them fill out the form. Cash is king.

How are you paying cash if they are in another state other than bank wire or mailing a certified bank check? Doing your homework would increase your chances of purchasing at a price closer to a trusted seller than MSRP. I believe you need to make a sensible concrete offer (not a hypothetical one) that leaves some cheese on the table for the AD. The AD has a 38% margin. Good luck with your negotiation.

Negotiating with AD on a Deepsea

I paid $8250 brand new for my DSSD in 08. Damn Rolex and their price gouging. That was retail.

I would think $10k would get it done at most ADs. I know it would at mine. My DSSD has been worn maybe 5x a year since 2011. Just the thickness bothered me. And I have big hands and wrists.

this is probably right, maybe 10.5, but 10 possible. Especially considering the new sea dweller and d-blue which it is competing against in the large dive watch category. Except for london/uk ,then its retail

Simple to me. You said you'd rather buy from an AD rather than DSW. What's the AD experience worth to you?. +500? +$1,000?
AD experience isn't worth much to me so I'd go dsw...

Has anyone received a cash discount on the Seadweller 43? My AD said I should be getting a call in a week or so.

I got a. VERY SMALL discount on the SD43. I paid in full the day it was Released at Basel too and I had just purchased a $41k diamond there the month before. Basically I saved about $450 and tax.

Ask Davidsw for his best price and then add $1000 and tell the AD that is your best cash offer. If they do not accept then buy from David. /thread
