GMT IIc - RANT (Final Update)

I wrote about the accuracy of my GMT IIc here twice:
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...t=53697&page=2

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=53927

Here is my final update and findings for those who are interested:

It has been exactly 7 full days since I set my watch, and I am glad to report that it is exactly 7 seconds slow ie. an average of 1 second slow per day. I am delighted with this result.

The key lesson I learnt (thanks to Art161) is to give your watch 40-50 360degree winds before you set the time on it the first time.

If I wear my watch for more than 12 hours, it tends to speed up about 1 second during that duration. And if I leave the watch unworn for 12 hours or so, it will tend to slow down for about 1.5-2 seconds.

All in all the average performance is -1 second per day!

Funny, I have the opposite results on 4/5 watches. My new DSSD runs slow... I will try your suggestions. All others are never fully wound and worn occasionally..all run a little fast. Cheers!

Yes, 3186 is proving to be an excellent movement and mine is doing very well accuracy wise too. Usually around a second or less gain a day face up over night and I can correct that by laying crown down over night and slowing it down a bit to loose a second a day. Simply can't ask more of a mechanical movement.

hey Scott:

Several members are now claiming that laying a 3186 watch either crown up or down will not affect the accuracy to speed up/slow down your watch. Have you really detected a difference in this ?
Secondly, when does your date flip on the GMT IIc please ?
Just curious.........

I'll back that up, the position for me is only good to change my watch about a second a day and that's it, not much at all. I'm just lucky that that little bit straddles +/-0. My 2006 16710 with the 3185 the position had a much greater influence and I think you could swing it nearly 4 or 5 seconds each way.

losing 5 seconds per day over 30 years is no longer 30 years. It turns into 29 years, 364 days, and 8.8 hours (I think).
