Sea dweller 4000 discontinued

How collectible do you think this watch will be? I'm thinking of acquiring one and putting it away for fun since I have a few stainless steel daily wearers already. Curious to what you guys think.

I think you're wasting your money if you think this will be an investment. Rolex made a lot of these, they aren't rare. Your money is better invested in traditional financial instruments.

I'd echo the above however if you're talking the SD4kC they were produced for only a few years so relatively speaking, there are less of them out there.

What's funny about this statement is that Warren Buffet purchased this watch approx 35 years ago for like 1/1000,000th of a percent of the money he earned with free dividends he had earned based on his direct investments in what? $$$, that's what! So, Warren Buffet invests in money and approx 1/1000.000th of his money invests in time...at least the time on his wrist!

How old are you? Are you ok waiting 50 years to find out if the watch turns into a blue chip investment?

Watches that are collectible now were never bought as collectors items. People wore them. Which is why good examples of a 50-60 y/o Submariner are rare, and worth big bucks. Now a days everyone is buying Rolex and squirreling them away. This will make almost any modern Rolex noncollectable as an investment.

They built enough of these and it was discontinued because of its lack of sales. doesn't seem like a great investment but who knows

They've already gone up in value. This may be a short term spike. Who knows?

Buy the watch. Wear it and enjoy it. It's a fantastic watch. I wear mine every day as it's my favorite watch.

Great watch. I can't say I invest in watches but I'd call the 116600 a fair value store...but not an investment.

Just look at the GMT 16710s, 16750s, 16700s, and 16760s and the pricing of those pieces is well above their original retail price. Pricing for a 10 year old GMT is the same as the presented value for a new GMT. The 16710s with 3186 movement that was only available for 13-18 months now goes for 3x its original retail price.

Needless to say, I'm keeping my 116600 SD4000 for a while.

Used watches gaining value so much because the new ones are now so expensive.

I am guessing Rolex price hike will slow down in relative terms. This will damper prices of used pieces IMO.

I kind of got lucky with the timing of mine. Went into my local family owned AD and they happened to have one back in November. So I asked about it and they were nice enough to offer 10% off. Who the hell was I to say no to that LOL. So I picked it up to take my mind off the election and it was discontinued shortly thereafter.

I not the type to kiss and tell when it comes to predicting future values. I buy what I like and my wallet allows but as for this model one would think it will retain value but if you're looking for a DRSD type appreciation I highly doubt it.

Most people will still prefer a Sub to this SD4K and there are tons of Subs out there. Why would a watch discontinued due to the poor interest from buyers suddenly become attractive? There are several reasons why it was never a success and I can't see them magically vanishing. But hey, it's your money after all.
