Argh, my Sub

I was sitting at my desk today in school and scratched my leg. As I put my hand back on my desk, I inadvertently banged my Submariner against the desk. A small section of the right lug got chipped

Do they fix that during the 5 year service?

Chipped? Probably more like dented. Depends on how deep it is. Yes, Rolex will fix it if it's not terminal. Really deep and they may opt to only remove part of it. Alternative is replace the case and that is major $$$$... Sorry to hear.

You're probably right. It's very small too; it's not even a millimeter long.

I hate it when that happens... and it always does. Just a matter of time... Sounds pretty minor. Live with it until you get it serviced. Specify you want it removed/worked on when you submit it for service.

I agree with this and would do the same.

Rolex should be able to remedy that when the next time you send the watch in for service. Less than a mm wide does not sound too bad to me.

Sounds like only a minor ding to me. A slight polish will do during your next servicing.

yikes.
My sub fell from desk a few weeks ago and the left lug has scratches on it too. I couldn't believe it.
But that pain has eased and good thing is it's still keeping excellent time at 1-2 sec a day!

Or you can keep the war scars as evidence that you actually wear your sub as it was intended. Adds character.

And you must have hated yourself the whole day. That happens to me every so often and I know the feeling.

When it happens I just remove it from the wrist and put it in the drawer for the rest of the day. My speedy gets some wrist time then.

Yikes ! When I first had my 14060 back in 1994, I was out grabbing the mail in from my mailbox. The lid inadvertently closed right on my Sub bracelet and I received a nasty scratch on the bracelet. It was taken out during the service. I recall the feeling, though.

Don't feel too bad about it. My first day at work with my new watch I hit the door on my way out. I took a quick glance and didn't see anything. The next day I was driving and my watch was in the perfect position to see a nice little ding in lower left lug. It's right on the corner. I was upset for a day or so, but know I see it as an identifier.

The watch will be fine. Made to take a beating that's for sure. Sorry to hear about that though. Just have it repaired when you have it serviced if if bothers you at that time.

Keep in mind that to remove a scratch or divot it's necessary to remove metal from the surrounding area to the depth of the scratch.

unless its platinum....platinum only seperates when scratched and a very small amout is lost when repolishing

But Matt, you were just extolling the quality of Rolex watches the other day. Lucky it wasn't a fragile Patek or some diamond encrusted non-watch that simply cannot put up with having the crap beaten out of it.

Thank goodness it was a Rolex, the toughest and best watch out there ever made, bar none.

If it's any consolation, my Sub is pretty dinged and battered.

Depends how dee the dent/chip is. If they buff it it may take too much of the SS surface. The same thing happened to an old SD of mine (not the one I own at the moment) and the RSC said that it may need a new case - in the end they sent it to a case expert, and they managed to remove the dent without taking too much of the steel with it.

Wooohooo!!! a battle scar...
I wouldn't worry, it seems like almost all dents and scratches can be buffed out.
Is the watch running OK?

The same thing happened to me, except I hit mine (ding on bezel) on the steel panel of the toilet door

I was not happy for 3 weeks or so ...
