While waiting for the girls today (another thread on that), I spoke to several watch industry friends. T has closed all it's TX stores and is looking for someone to buy the company...info from 4 different sources in the watch business. Just sharing...

Interesting but to be honest can't say I'm shocked. Tough business selling anything but Rolex in the 5-20k market these days.

Just kidding Tony, I was wondering the same thing myself. Well if we're both banned I'll buy us a $400 dollar of liquor.

Thinking back, I am really suprised they lasted this long. Whenever I ventured in to a store the service was terrible, the Rolex knowledge atrocious, and I was pressured incessantly to buy; at OUTRAGEOUS prices I might add.

i noticed that as well. Heading to houston on holiday soon and i always go to the galleria. Happened to look for other watch stores last week and noticed T was gone from the directory. I was not a fan, but would try stuff on and look there.

Thats the place when i was looking at a panerai one time and was wearing my AP diver the guy said. "let me give you my card and let me know when you are ready to upgrade"

They are one of the worst. Amazing they were able to stay in business this long.

Don't want to get banned either. How about just "rhymes with porno" then?

Not shocked, but in certain markets I assume they will keep stores open. The one here outside DC (which I rarely frequent unless window shopping) seems to be hit or miss. The service is usually not great though there are one or two employees who seem to do a great job. That said, they are almost never busy - but in reality in Arlington, VA where they are located they are the only decent game in the city. You have to go downtown or outside the beltway to find another Rolex dealer (or solid brand dealer at all).

I'm in NYC at least once a month and never venture into their "flagship" store there. To paraphrase, Gone but soon forgotten.

I have only been in T stores twice, once in northern CA, once in southern CA. The Rolex boutique in T in downtown SF is actually ok; the salespeople in the other areas left a lot to be desired. Hard sales techniques are over in this day and age.

I was only to the one in Water Tower place in Chicago one time. Was summer time and I was killing time while the wife and girl were at American Girl Store. Had on shorts, t shirt, flip flops and my DSSD. Looked at every case closely. Spent about 40 minutes there. No one even said hello. No, get out of my store, nothing.

I am sure there were people that had good experiences at their stores but I am not one of them.

I think that the luxury watch business will have its fair amount of passers thru and walk ins but what keeps the hobby/industry going is the WIS's. The ones willing to wait 2 years for a SS Chronograph when there are 100 different choices in the high end watch world. In the end these retailers need repeat business and watch nuts are the gift that keeps on giving.
