"Bluesey" question?
Ok guys someone please educate me on a watch Ive actually owned. The 116613LB is often referred to as the Bluesey. Rolex confused some of us a couple of years ago and did 2 dials in this model (sunburst blue and the "flat" blue which is similar to the Smurf dial). So here's the question- is the flat blue discontinued AND is the term bluesey used to describe one of the dial options OR either? Thanks in advance!

"Bluesy" is any TT Blue Dial Sub. It was coined well before the ceramic models.

Yes the High Gloss Smuf blue dial is discontinued. Don't ask me why some people call it flat

Bluesy describes all the TT models and the full YG
Sub with blue dials. The fiat or smurf dial has been Disco'd since 2013 on these models . The only existing Smurf is the WG Blue dial Sub 116619 LB... Like Peter said Rolex made the 16613 and males the 116613 LB . Bluesy was coined by people not Rolex... ![]() |

When the ceramic bezels came out on the subs, the first version of the "bluesy" was the non starburst dial. I have no idea how long they made this. Then it went to starburst. The non starburst is no longer produced.

If i recall correctly Rolex made the 116613 with the smurf color dial for just a couple years before changing it back to the sunburst blue on that blue reference.

The "Bluesy" term goes all the way back to the 80's and was generally used for the TT 16803/16613 LB. Certainly heard people use it for the YG 16618/116618 LB over the years as well.
As others have stated the non sunburst dial was introduced with the 6 digit 16613LB but did not last long. While some folks really like it, I think Rolex heard the masses that wanted the sunburst dial back. Seems some do not like the "Bluesy" term much. Never bothered me, but I am trying to use Sub LB on the forum more often...

"Bluesy" sounds less silly than "Batman" as a watch nick name.
The model ref number is always the least confusing way to go though. " Sunburst" is a term often used in describing guitar colours where one colour [usually yellow] in in the centre and the darker colour[s] , usually red or brown or black , is sprayed around the outside so the colours gently blend together. Example is the "sunburst Les Paul." In guitar speak this term has been around for decades. |
