SUB- Black or Hulk?

Hi all

First post on here.

I am looking at buying my first Rolex and I am wondering as a bit of an investment what your opinions are on either of the two watches listed above. I am on the waiting list for both but may end up paying the premium for the Hulk depending on opinions.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I'd go this one for your first and definitely for your only!

Neither will provide you with a large investment.

Buy one to enjoy it and wear the hell out of it. If it'll be your only watch then go for the black Sub C date. The LVc (Green/Hulk) is great but not for everyone.

I wouldn't view any modern Rolex as an investment, but just something to marvel at and enjoy, at least that has been my policy to just enjoy them worry-free.

Between the two having owned both, I personally preferred the black dial as more versatile "classic" and understated, but also completely understand the allure of the Hulk!

Sorry when I said investment that's maybe not what I meant. I maybe meant more in terms of if the Green is worth the extra that it is currently selling for if I can't get one from my local AD at list price.

As I'm fairly uneducated in Rolexs is there any possibility that the green could be discountinued anytime soon as it seems there are more and more coming to the market so are loosing there wow factor?

Black, go for the 114060. Elegant and understated.

It's a tough call on whether to pay the premium now as a price rise is probably coming so it won't matter much anyway. I'd try with a few AD's lists for a couple of months first.

Between these two, then I'd pick the black Sub-Date as my one and only, but I'd go with the LVc if a part of a collection. I know I wouldn't want or wear green every day!

I have been told by my local 'used' dealer that if the price rise does go ahead then the used prices will also have to follow.

He has offered me a brand new with the plastic still on for £7150 or he says he can get me a black faced sub with date for list price in a couple of weeks.

I currently have an Oris as my best watch, I have had it for over 2 years and only ever wear it on special occasions. But I would hope to get more wear out of such a big investment.

I just faced this same decision last week. The black is the benchmark of class. However, I found the hulk to be mesmerizing! I went with the hulk and don't regret it for a second. It dresses with everything just fine and has a great wrist presence. Don't buy this as an investment for some down the line profit. Buy this as an investment for you. Either way you can't go wrong, but I think the hulk just adds to the greatness of the sub. Good luck!

One and only, black. If this was an addition to a collection, LVc could be a nice option. Good luck!

Have you seen Hulk in person, or are you basing your decision on pictures?

Depending on *your personality*, it may or may not be a good option for a single Rolex scenario.

It is definitely worth the extra price of admission, but you have to decide first if you will be able to use it as often as a black dial. In your case, LN might be a better choice than LV.

Yeh I have tried a Green sub on today the black is the one I am struggling to view as they seem to sell straight away even on the used market.

Honestly you can't go wrong either way. Both are great options. However, there's something very special about the hulk, and there's plenty of black dials out there that you can always add later on. In the end go with your gut and what excites you the most.

It's all personal preference based on you and how you dress really. For me personally, I've never given a second thought to purchasing a Green sub over a black dial Sub. The Green sub is a great looking watch but I personally don't want to pay a premium for a watch that is less versatile with my general work and personal life dress code. If the green dial watch was priced the same as a black and I already had the black, then I'd consider one. But to pay a premium for one, no not for me.

To me, the green Sub is a novelty watch and the black Sub Date is a classic. But, it's not my money you are spending. Neither should be looked at as an investment. They are strictly luxury purchases.

I went with the black because I thought it would be more versatile and I wouldn't get sick of the color.

Welcome. I would personally go with Hulk. The dial is very unique. But honestly you can't go wrong with either.

Black. I personally don't care much for the green. Just don't find it attractive.

I would go with the black as your one and only and prefer the date. Stared at pictures of the Hulk for weeks and was mesmerized by it. It's a gorgeous piece and the sunburst green dial is amazing. (Not crazy about the bezel in some light)

However...... purchased it and had it for a day at home (left stickers on it). Just was not my style and after putting it on with clothes, suits, etc. Took it back for the black Subc date to have along with my BLNR.

I would say if you want have something unique go with the hulk, but if you want something that will work all around get the black. Either way both great watches the hulk will deff stand out just my opinion.
