Yard sale find Rolex 4363
Just figured I'd share my tagsale find with you guys. Can't say what I paid but it was alot more then a few bucks but alot less then what im sure they go for. Was wondering if anybody could date this watch for me? I'm thinking 40s to mid 50s? It has a white gold bezel (unsure of what kt.) With a stainless back. Its working although about a minute or 2 fast in a days time and even came with its original gator grain case. Any info poo is appreciated

I would guess mid to late 40s. There should be a crown etched on the outside of the case back too. Not sure what that big hole is on the lug at the 11 marker? This thing needs a major cleaning and service too.

I also figured out from the serial on the outside of the case back that it dates between 1944 to 46.. there is no rolex symble on the outside either

Here is one for comparison with a refinished dial. Notice the crown lightly etched on the outside of the case back.
Not sure why yours would have a hallmark on the lug unless it is a white gold case instead of stainless. https://fabsuisse.com/rolex-4363-pre...el-dates-1945/

Yeah I found that one also, and I did notice the etching, I guess mine could have either worn off or possibly didn't come with one being an earlier watch? And I was also thinking it was a gold bezel case but it doesn't scratch like gold when tested and there are no other markings other then that stamp.. I suppose it could be platinum although it wouldn't make any sense to me why they wouldn't use a platinum back also being a rolex, either that or it something totally different all together

The watch is however I would say about that era though on the early side of that as we began to see shock resisting on the 700 710 calibre as early as late 1945. Now...we all know nothing is consistent with Rolex...they may have used Non shock movements in some...and shock movements in others for extended periods of time. It's post 1940 and certainly pre 1950.
Is there a SWISS MADE hidden down at the bottom somewhere? |

Yeas it does say swiss made but I have to pop the crystal bezel off to see it, and the reason I won't say what I got it for is because I got it for a really great deal and don't wanna brag, let's just say it's worth alot more then I got it for

Did you test the bezel? I would be VERY Surprised if it was gold. The case is stainless steel. They would not have made a white gold bezel for this imho. Platinum was not used on these watches in that time period. That little divot you see on the lug is where it was tested at import to see if it was gold or not. You see this on some bubble backs of the era as well....rather likely to make sure they WEREN'T gold. |

There is only 1 screw pictured holding the movement in the case.

It's running fast...which generally I would say would mean the amplitude is low..because it has no oil :-) even though the regulator is set a bit forward.
Try to match the screws. They are kind of specific. The one that is in the other side is correct. |

The movement is in very nice shape!
It's a great watch too! These will be more popular as prices on everything else rises beyond affordability. It's a pretty large size the era. |
