Does the caliber 23-300 has overwind protection?
The 23-300 is obviously a manual wind caliber and on my 2593 the crown is so small and also a bit recessed in the case that is is quite hard to wind. Hence I usually only wind it a few turns just to keep it running. A few times I have tried to wind it fully though but I always have to stop as my fingers get numb (it also takes quite a force to wind). I have wound it as much as it should be fully wound comparing to other calibers but the spring does not "tighten". Does the 23-300 have an overwind protection that makes the mainspring slip in the barrel like automatic movements have?

Most of the manual wind movements do NOT have overwind protection (an exception being the new CH 29-535 PS used in Patek's 5170 chronograph)
Yours is vintage (and a beautiful watch by the way) so I would assume that it does not have overwind protection. |

Also, as far as I know the 23-300 was considered to be a terrific manual wind caliber and many still regard it more highly even than the cal 215 that's in use today. As much as I hate to say it (because Patek's vintage work can be a painfully slow process) it's probably time for a service.
