For those of you Patek lovers, opinion on GS?

So I've put my name down on the list for a 5711. Who knows how long that will take. Anyways, in the meantime I think ill buy either the 44 Ti ROO or the 44 RG. Not totally decided on which yet.

Anyways my question is, one of my other loves in the watch world is Grand Seiko. I have owned 7 of them at various stages and currently have 3.

How do you all compare Grand Seiko to PP? I know they are pretty different, just wondering what that translates to in the flesh.

Also, side note, spring drive is incredible and has spoiled me completely on mechanical movements from an accuracy perspective.

A few pics of my faves.

Not a fan at those prices. My good friend is a big Seiko collector and even has a Credor. I bought my wife's cousin's kid a SKX007 for graduation and checked it out, I liked Seiko at that price point way better, call me shallow :)

I've never owned a credor. The Echi ii looks pretty sweet.

I like GS, but not as a budget alternative to Patek. The finishing is really nice for the price, but there's often something I don't like about the design.

I am a huge fan of Seiko and the Grand Seiko lines of watches. That said, I have one Spring Drive GS in my collection. As much as I love them, they can not be compared to a Patek Philippe watch. Totally different watches with a radically different history and design style.

For those of you Patek lovers, opinion on GS?

Finishing on the dial, indices and hands is top dollar.

That said, even if we removed history from the argument, I just don't favor their aesthetic in general.

(Speaking mainly with regards to the sport offerings)

Personally these do absolutely nothing for me, I don't care about the price or even know where they are priced, they don't turn my crank.

But who cares what I or anyone else thinks. Purchase what you enjoy, and enjoy the hell of them. Wouldn't be any point if we all wore the same watch. Good luck on your future acquisition.

I find some nice, but AP and PP is SOOOOO much cooler for me. Get the 44 TI, might get it in a year or less, have been a little too naughty with the watch budget since 15 months, and getting the big Kahuna mid September, so need to calm down, but I love it, nicer than RG IMO, but I like your GS though, the Spring Drive ones are cool

on paper the GS are no doubt exceptional watches and they have their fans. For me, i just don't get it. They don't do much for me. That doesn't take anything away from them though as there are many brands who make great watches I just don't get as well.

Maybe you’ll change your view when you visit the newly opened Seiko boutique in Knightsbridge.

I'm definitely open to that as people far more knowledgeable than me have been impressed.

Didn't even know they opened a boutique. Thanks.

I own a Patek 5146 and I've owned a Grand Seiko Quartz dress watch. Liked the GS on paper, and when I tried it on at the store. But I sold it eventually, nice watch, but didn't see any reason to wear it when I had a Patek.

Look at the case reflections at the 23 seconds mark and onward.

GS is wonderful and I continue to be impressed. Comparing to Patek isn't the right approach on this one however if you ask me: comparing apples to oranges.

I love my GS 253 dress watch as much as I like my Patek timepiece. I would keep them both.

For me in terms of movement architecture (by this i mean the thinness, artistic structure, finishing) GS is very far from Patek or many swiss brands in the high end sector.

Where GS really shines is in the finishing of the case and hands, particularly hand finishing i find it to be on par with any top brand like Patek or VC etc.

GS are nice watches. The dial and finishing of the case are top notch. I do not think the bracelet is up to par with the rest of the watch. The movement finishing is nice but nothing spectacular. I think they are a good value if purchased on the secondary market.

I like the hi beat GMT with the white Iwata dial. I just don't like the $6,200 price point. I know pre owned they can be bought for up to 40% off MSRP. But since it's not really a high volume brand, it would be hard to find the watch I want. It's like if you buy a Breitling or Hublot brand new at MSRP, might as well light your money on fire.
