Do any of you allow friends or colleagues to handle your Rolex?
Hello.. For the first time ever I wore my SubC to a conference at work today. Colleagues immediately noticed my watch. I received plenty of compliments on my watch. I was even asked a couple of times by people that I consider to be friends to take my watch off so that they could take a closer look at it. Do any of you allow colleagues or friends to handle your Rolex?

I've never been asked, but I would. It's just a watch after all.

No, especially the AD's that like to fondle it when I try on new watches. Bad!

Yes, people rarely notice or comment, but occasionally a friend will ask to see one. A real good friend was thinking about buying a Sub so I had him wear mine while we were out for dinner. Would have let him take it for the week, but he refused. He is my golf partner and a really solid guy. I trust him very much.
He is still on the fence. Loves the watch, but is very fiscally conservative. Very well off, but generally does not treat himself to luxury things. Sooner or later I will wear him down and he will buy one....LOL

Yes, I would, there was a time when I was precious about them but that soon passes and as Adam says they really are just watches... but just don't let their cheeky kids handle them.

Sure, I just did the other day. A new guy at work commented on my GMT Master, and said he's always wanted one.

Thank you for your input. I did allow them to check it out. But I was little uncomfortable when I was asked the cost of the watch. I didn't answer the question with a dollar value.

I let the checkout guy at Best Buy try on my GMT2 Pepsi after he noticed it and gushed about how fine it was. I certainly wouldn't hand it to some guy on the street, especially if he looked like he could run fast, but otherwise I have no problems letting folks demo it for a couple minutes.

Last time I was asked, or at least the time I remember, my wife and I had a friend over, she's into watches and I just picked up my OP. She was messing around with the watches and my wife's rings. This was the result:

When someone makes more than just a passing comment about my watch, I take it off and hand it to them. It's what I've always done.

Sure, I'm generally open to the idea. That said, the only other person that has tried it on is another friend who is also a WIS but I didn't think twice about it, I actually volunteered if he wanted to try it on. He had told me he was looking at the Subs and has always wanted one so I didn't think twice about it.

Everytime. I even offer for curious strangers to try it on. You can have all the toys in the world, but what fun is there if you're playing alone.

If any of my friends or watch enthusiast show admiration, I usually unfasten the bracelet clasp (now on the tang buckle Rubber B) and not only he or she could inspect my watch but I'll ask 'em to try it on and take a photo It's no big deal for me!

Nope...punishable by death!
Hehe for me in most situations shouldn't be a problem just using common sense.. it's just a watch/material thing and most people I know would likely be very cautious handling my watches or I'd politely ask. However if a 6 year old asked, would likely politely decline... |

My father would try to gift me the watch if I commented on it, so I stopped commenting. You made me remember him. He was a good man. It speaks well of you.

Just a watch. But, Clark I'm sorry to see. That sucks. Would put me off too.

I bought a Patek to wear to my wedding. A buddy of mine was getting married the month prior to me... He wore it before I did.

Yes, people rarely ask, but sometimes the watch comes up in conversation. I will take my watch off and put it on their wrist so they can get the feel of the weight. Most non-watch fans are not used to the heavy weight of the watch, and it gives them a different perspective.
