Datejust 41 vs Datejust ii

This would be my first Rolex and was trying to between these two watches. Which one would you guys recommend and what would be a good price from an AD? I got a quote of $7800 no tax for the datejust ii.

I find the DJ II a little more sporty with the larger case, lume and bezel. If I was wearing with mostly casual I would go with the DJ II if it was for the office I would choose the latter and enjoy the longer power reserve and better proportions

The DJ2 is a beautiful watch. True 41mm+. Many are not enamored by the scale and proportions. Personally, it's the proportions that drew me to the watch. I like the larger bezel and fat indices. To me the new DJ41 doesn't offer enough differentiation from a DJ36. I assure you my opinion is in the minority here on the Forum and in Geneva.

After trying both I prefer the 41 mm. Just fits my wrist better is all. I'd never buy it at msrp though.

I like the DJ II. The size and fit are great. I also like the DJ 41 and it is a great looking watch on the jubilee bracelet. If I wanted a larger watch on an oyster bracelet it would be the DJ II. If I wanted the new look of the DJ 41 I would get it on a jubilee bracelet. No bad choice here.

Like others have said, I'm sure I will be in the minority here. But I like the DJII better. I have always preferred the Oyster case, so that wasn't a selling point for me in terms of considering the 41. Overall, the more masculine look of the DJII just sung to me.

I think the DJ41 is leaps and bounds a better choice. IMHO, better proportioned, more versatile and timeless.

Much prefer the more masculine and sporty DJII. To me, it is more of my personal style and dress.

I too enjoy the proportions of the DJ II over the DJ41. Although upgraded with a newer movement and longer power reserve, the DJ II movement is a proven workhorse that I have no concerns with. I also like the larger hour indices over the skinnier ones on the DJ41. All a matter of preference and "he who buys is the one that will wear it." Hope to join the club soon but for now will appreciate from afar!

Get the one you like better. If you can't tell the difference or don't care, get the one that's meaningfully cheaper. If they're both about the same price, get the DJ41 for the slightly better movement.

I love my DJ2. I was also drawn to the larger size and sporty look with the smooth bezel and oyster bracelet.

In that particular configuration, I like the DJ2. However, I think I would take a look at the smooth bezel option and save yourself a little more money.

DJ41 is my choice. I tried on a DJII when first out and loved the look but not the PCLs. As for proportions my untrained eye can't quickly see the differences other than the reduced size of the hour markers on the DJ41 and its more refined fluted bezel. I also appreciate the change to the 3235 movement and increased power reserve. I'm very pleased with my DJ41 and glad I waited for it.

They are both great. I prefer DJ41, plus you have option of jubilee on it.

I prefer the thinner baton markers on the 41. I do love the shadow roman dial on the DJII though. I don't have particularly strong feelings about the thicker bezel or lugs on the DJII, though side by side I do think I prefer the 41. If the DJII sings to you, probably a great time to buy.

Tough call. I honestly don't see a significant difference between the two, so if the new movement and power reserve aren't important to you, you'll find better deals on the DJ2.

Tried both last week. On my 7 1/2" wrist the DJII felt chunky and sat a little high. The DJ41 was perfect AND... as has been said it comes with the jubilee bracelet, A MUST HAVE on a Rolex if you wish to hide unsightly scratches, along with the fluted bezel which does the same trick.

I do understand oyster and smooth is the modern, younger man's, choice but I'm old and wiser now that I've lived with a DJ36 (TT/jubilee/fluted) for 15 years with no noticeable marks and a Sub 16610 for 4 weeks with LOADS!

I JUST got back from my AD today after trying on all DJ 41's, DJ II (again) and DJ 36 (again).

I am a traditional DJ 36 man, but I must admit with its reduced now 47mm distance between top and lower lug sets, DJ 41 was a great fit on me today and quite attractive. Its also more elegant in person. I was worried DJ 41 would be too large and too in-discreet. It wasn't. DJ 41 stick dials: Rhodium is nice, but hardest to see. The blue dial was a very nice blue too. But it was the black stick dial, smooth bezel and oyster bracelet DJ 41 config. which called me the most. (No wonder Subs look so good).

I was pleasantly surprised to see they also still had a NEW DJ II with Blue Azzuro with Romans in store, which I'd only seen online. This dial is breathtaking- stunning to look at in sunlight, yet it could just pass as "discreet" indoors. Well that's what I think, anyway. Although I don't prefer the fit of DJ II, this particular configuration deserved my attention!

I owe it to my AD's not to reveal prices, but I'm sure you can get a good deal on DJ II, especially now its discontinued and even a descent one on DJ 41. With Subs its a different story. At least where I live. Cheers!
