Six Months As A Rolex Owner

As I have said in other posts, I am not a rich guy. Well, not "money rich". I do consider myself a success. I have a wife that is just about perfect, two beautiful daughters, a grandson and another grandchild on the way. I have worked hard for what I have, albeit humble and far from flashy.

I had always wanted a Rolex and six months ago, the planets aligned and I was able to acquire one at a great price. For me, it was the reward for thirty years of working hard. It was a reward for dealing with the public for thirty years.

When I first got it, I was struck with the "Hey, I have a ROLEX!" excitement. Now, it's much more subdued.

That said, I am pleased with the choice. I am glad I took the leap and bought something that would last many years. The watch is already 34 years old and I'm sure it will last many more.

The acrylic crystal has a few scratches....you're right, folks, that first one was bothersome. The clasp has some desk wear, but that's okay. The watch is mine, it's an everyday watch and a little wear on it gives it character. I've gotten it wet, gotten it dirty. It's been to work with me every day, it's taken out the trash and driven my daughter to work.

Once in a while, someone will ask if it's a Rolex. I simply say "yes" and leave it at that. A few folks here on the forum think a TT watch is an old man's watch. That's okay. I'm not as young as I used to be, and a TT 15003 suits my look just perfectly.

I know I will get another one eventually. I bought this one and made a solemn oath to the friend that sold it to me that I would never flip it. I value the friendship more than any watch.

Admittedly, I was a little intimidated joining the forum. I thought you folks were gonna be a bunch of rich folks who wouldn't let me be part of the group. I was very wrong. Everyone has been very welcoming and warm.

The only downside I see to ownership and my time on the forum is my wish list has gotten MUCH larger!

Cheers, folks!

Good for you. Seems like a nice down to earth attitude. I bought my first last year and there are many different models I'd like to have. Will I ever even get another? Who knows? Does it matter? Not really. I'm happy with what I have.

Nice pick up an very great post!!

Yes, on this and probably every forum or social circle, you'll find people of varying wealth. The best thing on this forum is you'll find 99% of the time only the love and appreciation of nice watches.

There will always be some that makes more or less than you or I. What brings us together is our appreciation of this obsession.

Thank you for your post and good luck with your obsession.

I just realized I posted a similar post when I first joined the forum. I promise when I bore you all with the "One Year As A Rolex Owner", I'll just cut and paste the best parts out of the other threads and recycle them.

This is what I get for posting under the influence of pain medication. You should see what I post when I'm drunk.

Show us the watch !!! You are a success and to keep a family together these days is very difficult. I been married for almost 20 years and I have a granddaughter named Skyler who just turned 3 last July and Avery who is almost 3 months old. Skyler has a mickey mouse watch and I gave my daughter-in-law my apple watch that was replace by apple.

God Bless Your Wonderful Family

Forgot to tell you in case you don't know, any RSC will buff out the scratches on your acrylic crystal free of charge, while you wait.

congrats man! Lefty? I am but I wear watches on my left arm. There really is a great feeling about working hard and buying something to really exemplify your hard work and dedication.

On a side note you are going to get the is that real and, "look at that fake watch" here and there, don't worry.

On a recent plane ride this guy was literally standing next to me and said "these young guys with their fake watches, when I ask them what they paid for it, they always say something like 199, it looks like a Walmart watch" I just had to chuckle and moved on.

Cheers!

I'm a righty, but I have always worn my watch on my right wrist. Don't know why. I am left eye dominant, and participate in some "outdoor pursuits" and use both right and left hands.

I do get a kick out of the "can I do (insert activity here) with my Rolex". Of course you can, it's a Rolex, not the Lost Ark Of The Covenant. :)

Nice post. Thank you.

I'm fairly new here too and was intimidated too. But now I realize that most people here are willing to help and share their experience.
