Icon5 I have a bit of a situation, advice needed.

As some of you know I have been impatiently waiting for an SD43. I have a local AD that I like and do business with... but by the time I decided I wanted an SD43 and I put a deposit down on it I was pretty far down the list.

I travel a bit so I made it a point to stop by random dealers in random cities to see if I can find one. So far that hasn't worked for me at all, but lo and behold, I found one yesterday so I decided to jump on it immediately.

As luck would have it, this morning I get a call from my AD and he says my SD43 is coming in Monday.

I like my AD and I know they like me because through our relationship I get access to stuff that others seem to be having difficulty finding. I am looking for advice if you guys think I should take delivery on what would be my second SD43 in order to make sure I keep the AD relationship in top shape... Or to pull the plug and take my chances with them black listing me for the future.

Thanks in advance.

If resources aren't an issue pick them both up and flip one of them.

Don't pull any plugs. Just make a few quick phone calls and you can easily sell the SD43 to some0ne on the TRF for a fair price. Let's Keep Everybody Happy , shall we ? A Win-Win situation for Every0ne !

Tough choice.....reality is you're going to have a hard time finding someone to take the watch off you for MSRP+tax currently since you're not a regular seller with the way SD43 inventory has been the past months.....so taking delivery on a 2nd one would certainly mean a loss.....it's really up to you to evaluate if this relationship is worth this. I personally would explain kindly to the AD what happened and if they're the type of people you want to deal with anyway, they'd understand and continue the relationship. Good luck.

You should be able to sell the SD43 but you'd also be taking the painful risk of finding a trust-worthy buyer... considering how many endless scams are going on right now.

I agree with the explanation and the OP getting one as a gift from his 'wife'...

The AD will obviously call the next guy in line --- it's not like they're losing anything.

And if they don't buy the OP's story... well... then they aren't his friend anyway.

I wonder if the AD will ever read this thread?

Easy solution to not take a loss: Ask on TRF is there is anyone in the Chicago area who would like to buy a SD at MSRP. Take the buyer with you and tell the AD you are buying watch for your best bud. Pay with your CC. Get his name on the warranty card. Upon leaving the store, with OP in possession of watch, head to your bank with buyer and have him give you cash for the watch inside the bank. Deposit the cash into bank immediately to ensure there is no counterfeit cash. :-0 And buyer leaves with watch.

That should make buyer comfortable enough.

Absolutely this. Leave the one at your preferred AD for someone else to pick up and enjoy.

First of all Kudos on hunting one down....they are out there.

Don't buy and flip. You will lose money at this point as they are being bought by TD for below retail now, so if you pay retail plus tax, then you would lose...

Do you have a particular relationship with anyone at the AD? I always go to the manager and AM... I don't work with anyone else. They are the best in my opinion to make decisions on what I can get as far as hard to obtain pieces, discounts on watches / jewelry for the wife, special events, custom orders, freebies, etc... If you're on a good relationship, I'm sure they'll understand and if there's a long list it'll go to the next person. It's not like they had to special order it for you and no one else wants it. With that being said gauge your AD as I've worked with other AD in the past that feel like you just stabbed them in the kidney with a sharpened chicken bone if you don't make it to the special event that you RSVP'ed to.

At the end of the day though, what's more important keeping the relationship, or a potential loss in money from selling / having 2 of the same watch

Buy the SD43 at your local AD and buy another model of equal value at the other AD.

It's not like you had your AD special order some hilarious Hublot Big Bang Gold for you, it's an SD43, probably sold to the next person before you've even put the phone down...
AD's are used to this, it happens all the time, just be honest.

I would be honest with the AD. I wouldn't purchase the 2nd SD43 as it will certainly result in a loss. They'll understand. Good luck mate.

Just call and explain the situation. They will sell the watch immediately. If there are any issues later address them. If not, move on. Congratulations on your SD43.

Explain the situation and pass on the watch. I'm sure they won't have any trouble selling it to someone else.

I agree, a fair AD will accept this and happily sell to the next in line. If he takes it badly this is not an AD I would do business with.

Explain and let them go to the next guy on the list or buy it and flip it for a profit if you can.

So if the AD doesn't buy the OP's lie (that you're suggesting), then they aren't his friend anyway?

Amazing how many people have no problem playing it fast and loose with the truth. Another member added to the list of TRFers I'll never do business with.

I think you should shoot it straight to your AD. The truth is, they couldn't get you a SD43 as quick as you could find it somewhere else. Maybe you shouldn't of been going to various retailers in all these cities if you didn't want to have to face your AD...or at least thought of how you'd react prior to pulling the trigger.

Just be honest.

buy it, sell it unworm to someone on the forum that has been waiting for a long time.

Edit: don't get it if you are going to lose money.

Same thing happened to me. However I bought from second dealer one day before I got the call. I told them on phone what happened, as they had never promised me a timeframe nor that I was next in line.

I did make it a point to stop by personally with the new watch and say thanks for calling to the original dealer. Made me feel better and eliminated the thought that I was flipping it.
