Stolen watch Advice

HI all,

Unfortunately , I had a break in and a safe was stolen with my Sub and other watches.

I have contacted the police and insurance company but wanted some advice on the best way to let the watch community, shops, pawns etc know. I have all the appropriate serial number information.

Does Rolex keep a data base of stolen watches, contact them and give them my information?

Thanks for any advice,

Rolex does. You should notify them and provide serial numbers if available, in case the watch ever goes to RSC for service.

Sorry to learn of the theft, and hope you are made whole.

Man, that sucks! You live here in San Francisco? What neighborhood? Did you post on Next Door? Did anyone else see anything? Anyone stop by your house the week before selling something? We live in Sutro Heights.

Sorry about your loss OP. Perhaps post serial numbers on here and check for nearby security cameras.

So sorry for the theft, I'm glad only things were lost. Serial numbers given to Rolex and Authorities is a great start. Scouring local for sale methods like Craigslist, Offer Up and such is also a way to do some research on your own. If you see anything, report it immediately. Definitely don't try and get it back yourself. Stay safe and good luck

that sucks but I'm glad they were insured. Was the safe bolted to the floor/wall?

personally if it was me and my insurance paid out that would be the end of it for me. The watches cease to be your property anymore once you get paid for them so spending any amount of time trying to find them would be pointless as you wouldn't get them back most likely even if they were recovered. I would just let the authorities do their job and try to catch those responsible.

I would report it to Rolex. They maintain a stolen database. Sorry this happened to you. Good luck!

how did they stole your "safe" when it's supposed to prevent this kind of situation? I ask because I do not want the same thing happen to any of us. Please kindly clarify.

And sorry about your lost...

If it can fit out the door they can get it. You need a 20000 lb safe bolted to concrete block to stop em.

I would be interested in hearing a little more info on the safe. My safe weighs 1,300 pounds empty so I don't think anyone will be walking off with mine.

A buddy of mine is a pharmacist and had a safe that was 7x5x5 and weighed no telling what stolen. They smashed through the cinder block wall at the pharmacy to get it. If someone wants something bad enough they will get it. I've also seen a few ATMs taken and they aren't light.

Sorry to hear that. I am just glad that they were insured and no one was home to be hurt or worse.

Most gun safes (what I use) are fine as long as they are bolted down and cannot be carted/carried off. Mine is in my office and is bolted into 2 x 10 floor joists with 6" grade 8 lags and washers. I live in a nicer area and have an alarm and a dog and well......."other things" in the safe.

Sorry to hear, hope they catch them. Asking around the neighborhood for video surveillance is a good advice suggested above. You never know how many of your neighbors might have video cameras pointing out.

Please keep us posted.

True; but it never hurts to look.

Perhaps it was someone you know? I was burglarized once and they just stole two TVs. Didn't rifle thought anything else. Cop said it's likely an inside job...

Sorry to hear, and hope I'm not butting in, but for those that asked about safes ...

I had my safe installed a few years ago, well over a thousand pounds and bolted to a concrete floor. Before I purchased it, I called a friend who works as a detective in the major case division of our local police department. He told me that in his 30 years of doing what he does, he has never once seen a successful compromise of a residential, heavy safe bolted to a concrete floor. He said the "fire proof boxes" that sit on a shelf in your closet are always the first thing to be stolen. He also said he has seen some high end safes compromised in a commercial, jewelry store setting, (by professional thieves) but never in a residential setting.

Unfortunately a diamond disc angle grinder is most portable.

For anyone interested the best safes are floor safes that can be hidden under a section of carpet with rug atop. Simply because only you should know about it.

Sorry for your loss OP. I don't know what to suggest. Get the word out to any dodgy geezers you know. Best case scenario some scumbag swapped it for a large bag of their chosen illicit substance. Word of a more substantial reward might get you reunited with your watch and said scumbag a good kicking for your trouble.

if its bolted to the floor into concrete they are going to have to remove most of the floor in order to even get access the bolts to cut them. 99% of burglaries don't involve power tools though I'm guessing.

If you have an alarm the police, even with their awful response times to burglar alarms will be there long before the safe is removed.

This is a really helpful thread and shows the benefit of reporting a watch stolen to Rolex

I actually meant down the side of the actual door where the lock bolts are located. 10 minutes tops.
