Price increase

I have been looking for a used Rolex for last 6 months, the new and pre-owned prices has been increased a lot in past 6-8 months, why?

Waiting list on new stock for most steel / popular TT pieces especially sub/gmt

Grey dealers push up prices above RRP

All new channels now are over rrp or require a wait

People going to second hand market

Much higher demand on used / nearly new, prices are going way up

Some are really pushing envolope, hulk and Pepsi.

Not really sure why rolex has left the market so sparse regarding its most popular models. What other manufacturer fails to get its most popular products in the windows of its stores. And also doesn’t make enough to meet demand. It’s turning down business

But for a reason

I hope it's not true but a whisper from an event very recently left me with the thought that there is a price increase tomorrow in the UK.

I do hope it's not true and it's not worth starting a new thread in case it's not true and I'm shot down in flames.

I have noticed the same on the popular SS and TT models. Less so on some of the more standard offerings. I have no reason why but would speculate the TS are increasing the margins.

Yeah...agree with William. I'm seeing it on certain models.

When I first started out on TRF, you could get any watch you wanted at slam dunk savings over an AD. Now...if you want an LV-C, Daytona-C, or a steel SKD, you're better off buying them at an AD...if you can find one.

Rolex USA have put out to many ADs they are halting supply of popular models until next year so naturally sellers are pricing this in. In many other countries this has been the sitch for months, even years.

Do you have any idea why they would be doing this, e.g. stockpiling for some reason? Presumably they are not decreasing production, so why would they decrease supply?

How about a thread on spotting a Rolex at COSTCO, or asking what % - on average - you should expect on a SS Sub at an AD?

Go all in I say.

We've all had good guesses as to why they are reducing supply for the last year. Could be strategy, could be production issues, could be new movements coming out at Basel, just all speculation at this point.

All the pre-owned Sub and GMT price gone up, grey market dealer selling new one for MSRP instead of some discount, they are about $1k up since new year .
I can go AD if I want to pay MSRP????

Simple: Supply and demand.

Even SS Subs are getting harder to find at ADs. I was on a business trip to Stockholm last week, and the AD Krons told me there is more than a year-long waiting list to get an SS Sub Date or No Date. Crazy. If that's the trend everywhere, it's gotta have a trickle-down effect.

New movement for the sub or gmt would make prices plummet on the outgoing models.

Truth. If the models were plentiful and could easily be had, you would not see this pricing trend.

There might be Rolex price increase in Switzerland as well. Audemars Piquet, Panerai and Patek Philippe already did it.

I don't think the impact will be that severe at all, there may some other cosmetic changes that some may not like as much, and Rolex will limit supply of these too no doubt so prices will in fact probably continue to rise on both old and new models.

I was in Edinburgh yesterday.

They have 2 main ADs close to each other.

I am not lying when I say this, they had 0 SS Sports Watches. Even the usual suspects of EXP2, EXP1, Milgauss etc were missing.

I spoke to both who said they had nothing (except obviously thousands of DJ etc) and all the desireable pieces now can’t even be ordered. Both spoke about SS models like they were mythical creatures, rarely ever seen.

I questioned black and green subs and was quoted......wait for it.....4-6 years based on their lists and the number they get delivered. They said not to even ask about DaytonaC. Both offered to add me to lists but I declined as I’m not looking for anything specifically (but could have made an impulse purchase if they had anything interesting). They said when they get a model in they work their lists by phone. They wait for someone to answer and the watch is theirs. If it goes to voicemail they won’t leave a message, just phone until someone answers and wants it.

They admired my old Pepsi GMT and we had some pleasant chat. Both stores were lovely and staff were friendly. They were both ultra busy with people waiting to be served and plenty of people buying Watches, whilst drinking prosecco lol.

They both had preowned departments with extremely high prices. One had a used GMT SS in Black. RRP £6,200 and their price £6,000. It sold as I was in the store.

The UK, more specifically Scotland market for Rolex is crazy just now.

No UK price increase shown on Rolex Website this morning .........looks like another month of increasing Grey prices and ever dwindling AD stock
