Explorer II 40mm

Is the explorer II 40mm really 40mm? It looks smaller.

39 mm
And the lugs on the BLNR make it look bigger than 40 also
I’ve owned both

I keep going back and forth between the 40mm and the 42mm...the 42 looks so much bigger than the 40. I have DJ41 and the Exp II 42 seems so much bigger than it.

The adjustability of the bracelet and the easy link clasp swing it toward the 42 for me...the size thing is secondary.

When I was dining at a sushi restaurant in Zurich a few months ago the waiter told me that his neighbor's cousin's father-in-law who works at Rolex said Rolex would be releasing a new Explorer II 40 at Basel 2018 that would be a true 40mm.

So, easy, just wait to buy that one.

I have a 14 year old Explorer 11 and I have looked at the 42. To me the 42 looks chunky and therefore picked up the new Explorer 1. Matter of taste tho.

Interesting take...I guess some the thought the Exp II change was coming last year. A true 40mm exp II would be awesome.

Do not discount the effect of larger hour markers and thicker hands in making it 'look' larger than the previous gen. Same effect (dial wise) between 5 and 6 digit Sub.

Mine measures 39mm, and I feel that is exactly how it wears.

Sorry, its not obvious to someone newer that my post is the kind of speculation that we get about the next Basel. I was just joshing. I would love a 40mm Explorer II though.
