Why kill one of Rolex longest production watches it's been in production since the early 1940s.

Why kill an updated model? The smaller version was rolled into the OP line a while ago if that was what was meant by the OP's post.

i meant the new one. i dont think its a fast seller.

similar to what happened to the sd4k. not kill the line off just the model for a redesign.

Possibly...I could see this latest version lasting about as long as the revamped Milguass (black and white versions).

I agree with MonBK. It will be discontinued on 10-23-2029. I know this for a fact because my college roommates, cousins brother has a friend who knows a guy that works at Rolex... ;)

Well awhile back, I followed the most given advice on TRF when people ask “what’s your advice” or “what’s your opinion” (although I didn’t ask before I bought it) buy what YOU LIKE ....so I did, and I happen to really like it!

I doubt it. There's a lot of history in that name. They had a chance to kill it instead they created an entirely new model with it. Doubt it's going anywhere but on many buyers wrists.

Only if it is a slow seller, but then it may be updated, again...
But discontinued, doubtful!

Unfortunately not a fan of the Air King. Could care less if it was discontinued.

I’ve posted about this before and it’s gone unanswered on the forum....

I’ve heard it from two separate and plausible sources that the Air King will be discontinued when the Bloodhound makes its 1,000 mph record.

For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, the Bloodhound is the car built to break the 1,000 mph barrier, being built and run by the same British team that broke the sound barrier with the Thrust SSC a few years back. Now they’re going for the 1,000 mph target.

Rolex make the instruments in the cockpit which are made in the same vein as how the Air King looks.

Don’t believe me...google it.

The thinking is Rolex will make the Air King a classic by stopping its production as soon as it’s imortalised in the history books by the Bloodhound.

Great pics and I do really like this watch, but I guess in today's line up it can get a little lost, so it's future is not guaranteed. I'd like it remodelled to resemble more of cockpit's layout and with a seconds at six subdial. I think the PP 5522 Pilot could have done with this too to fill up the empty space on the dial.

Thank you. Yes, I agree, it can get lost in today’s line up. I actually had the Exp and decided I like this one better. For me...just more interesting to look at, I like the style, and I really like the case dimensions.

I hope so.
Or as a matter of fact I hope they bring back the Original and Best, 34mm, classic version.

That is interesting. I'd rather they release that subdial version on breaking the record rather than then discoing the damn thing, which seems a bit pointless as this needs so much more publicity for this immortal idea to be achieved.

Every model is different for everyone. Some hate the daytona, some hate the sub, some hate the gmt and some hate the milgauss. Different strokes for different folks. They updated it for a reason and a lot of people actually like the look of the new airking. No reason rolex would discontinue it. It personally doesnt do much for me. I much prefer the milgauss over the air king :).

It’s too new to be discontinued any time soon. I like it but there are too many other pieces higher up my list for me to consider one any time soon.

Why in the world would they discontinue it? They may remodel it as has been suggested based on the Bloodhound beating the land-speed record, or release a Speed King, to commemorate that achievement (if achieved), however I don’t think this reference is going anywhere any time soon.

It is a beautiful reference that shows Rolex are prepared to be daring once in a while. Long may it reign as the King!

The current Air King is the "remodeled" version. It was out of the lineup for a year or two while they were building this super-Air King with the anti-magnetic movement and larger case.

The only thing I would expect with the Air King in the near future may be a different selection of dials.
