PAM590 Q-Series....decisions, decisions, decisions

Hello Panerai fan club,

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a NOS Panerai PAM590 when visiting my local AD. I gentleman purchased it from the AD back in 2014 and literally never worn it. It's still in the box and he is flipping it for another purchase.

It is the much sort after Q-Series, the first year they made the PAM590, and at the time, a LE to 1000-pieces to the US only.

I currently own a PAM104 and love it. Have many straps and love changing it up each time I wear it. However, I own five very nice timepieces but none of the same brand. That's part of the quandary. Also, this will be my first "manual wind", all my other watches are automatics if that plays a factor in the decision making.

My question is (I need help from the enablers here....lol) should I jump on it and grab it? The pricing is very favorable and the local AD is super to work with and very established in our town.

Well that's the brief background and need some help from those that either own multiple Panerai's or those that are familiar with the PAM590. Or whoever else wants to chime in....go for it:-).

The 590 is a great watch for sure, but I would not pay a premium for NOS. 590s can be found in the pre-owned market for a very good price. The Q series is nice though as it comes with a second strap a black weathered one (I don’t know the official name).

Look at another case style. Sub, rad, 1940, 1950. You have a 104 already.

After years of automatic Rolex/Tudor I added a manual wind Pam. I love it. I love winding it up. I occasionally forget and run late for everything! I narrowed down to 590 and 390. I went 390 as it was totally different to other pieces I have owned and own. I particularly like the fact it 'just' tells the time (with gold hands!)

Agreed. It is priced accordingly to pre-owned 590's now. I just do not like posting prices on forums. But it is priced very nicely.

Good point and one I lamented over as well. The 590 does wear much light due to the case being a tad shorter. It just seems to sit on my wrist a bit nicer and the fact it is manual wind is appealing too.

The dial on the 590 is similar to the 104, but there are nice subtle differences that make the 590 appealing. The slightly different look, great AD, NOS, the Q-series and feel on the wrist are all reasons why I'm looking at it seriously.

That's why it is such a tough decision.......thus reaching out to the PAM fans for insight.

Like the 390, it had the sausage dial which I later grew out of...
great piece if bought right at the right price...

I like my 44m Luminor manually winded. I say go for it. then decide if you would keep the 104 ;-)

That's definitely an option if I find two Panerai's do work in my rotation should I buy the 590. I kinda need to make this decision very soon. The local AD has been holding it for over a week and he's been very patient.
