Waikiki Boutique

Does anyone have an recent experience with this particular store?

I'm leaving for Oahu this weekend and want to check it out. However, we are staying on the opposite side of the island so was planning on climbing Diamond Head in the morning, grabbing lunch at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel then stopping by afterwords. The problem is I'll probably be dressed like a bum since we are hiking in the morning so I'm a bit hesitant of even stopping in if they are going to be rude since I really don't care for any negativity on my vacation. Are the salespeople here friendly and allow shoppers to try on different models?

Also, if we end up shopping in Waikiki until dinner does anyone have any good restaurant recommendations?

Let me preface this by saying I have not been to that boutique.

With that said, casual dress is the norm in Oahu and you almost certainly won't be treated poorly for your attire. You'd look more out of place wearing a suit

Enjoy your trip

I don't think they will care too much about how your dressed. The way of life in Hawaii isn't uppity like the rest of the states. Let us know how it goes!

Enjoy your trip bud. I'm sure it is fine. I've walked into other high-end watch stores along the main retail street there in casual clothing.

One store I forgot to stop by is the Tiffany Store to check out the Patek's there (one of the few Tiffany Stores that carry Patek... and the aura of Tiffany stamped dial haha). Perhaps worth your while taking a look there too.

I stopped in for a minute. It’s in a duty free mall, so I’m not 100% sure if you can even buy from there or not. Regardless, they had no inventory (<10 watches total) and there were no salespeople in sight. I did a quick once over and took off.

I’d personally skip it unless you’ve never seen AP in person before.

I had a similar experience earlier this year. Their inventory was lacking, and not a single salesperson was there.

It's 2017, whoever judges how much money someone has by how their dressed is dumb

This is great advice, thank you so much! Was planning on stopping there anyway to look for a Christmas gift for the wife

Wow, this I was not aware of. That's a real bummer since there is not anywhere remotely close to where I live that sells them. I was really just hoping to try on a 42mm ROO Chronograph to make sure I can pull it off. If so I wouldn't be looking to buy while there anyway since I want to see what they release at SIHH in a few months before making a decision.

I appreciate all the feedback from everyone!

I don't think this is quite what you're asking, but I'm inclined to spit it out anyways. My favorite places to eat in Oahu (not limited to the Waikiki area) are Helenas, Sushi ii, Giovanni's, nico's pier 38, and Haleiwa joe's in that order. Those aren't super fancy places, just good, solid food you can find in Hawaii! If you're looking for fancy you could try Alan Wong or Sushi Sasabune which are both great for dinner near the Waikiki area. I personally think Nobu is overrated, but I'm Asian and so are my taste buds, although my "white-washed" Asian friends seem to think very highly of it.

As far as people judging you on attire, people in Hawaii don't do much of that. They're all quite friendly and would probably wonder why you are dressed so formally if you were to show up as such. One of the great things about the humble state. Over in California I would almost feel uncomfortable for being underdressed at a nice/fancy/upscale establishment.

Have fun on your vacation!

“Uppity like the rest of the States”

Ah San Francisco you mean. I didn’t even think they wore clothes there.

Definitely agree! In bold... places to go! Not fancy, but great food IMO.

I learned one thing from Giovanni’s. If the sign says spicy and no refunds, the food is too hot for me.

I handle heat pretty well too. At least for a white guy.

I would wear a suit and cufflinks, imagine the great service! I'm in the UK so I am literally trying to remember great service.

Was there last wk. the boutique was nice. Had a lot of pm pieces and allowed you to try on what ever they had. I like dukes... on the beach, great food , large portions and reasonably priced. The shrimp truck Giovanni is amazing. I found the spicy to be really hot.
