Rolex Explorer 1 Fit Enquiry
Hello, I just wanted to get some opinions on whether you guys think this explorer 1 is a good fit or not. I'm thinking about this or the previous version 36mm. I have a flat 6 inch wrist.
https://ibb.co/bVKMAG https://ibb.co/cHccHw https://ibb.co/cfauVG https://ibb.co/mxS8qG https://ibb.co/fvZA4b Note: I love both iterations and am constantly going back and forth on which one to get Should I get the 36 or 39mm? Your opinions are very valued and I look forward to hearing them Kind regards, Stephen. |

The 39 looks great on you. I would go with the new explorer.

Looks fine. Let's not forget, it is not only about circumference of your wrist but its shape too. I have a 7.25" wrist, but the look from top my wrist looks small.

Ultimately, it depends on your style. I tend to prefer a more vintage aesthetic, and, at 6'2" with 7" wrists, I love 36mm, because it looks like I'm wearing the watch, rather than it wearing me. Big watches make me look smaller.
I tried to take a shot of my 36mm watch that resembles yours with the 39mm, for some perspective. It's just a matter of taste. |

39mm looks good to me. Same size as mine and my wrist is smaller.

Another thing to consider is dial size. The dial of the 36mm Explorer I is the same size as the dial of the Sub/Gmt. It's really the spinning bezel that makes those watches bigger, but they read about the same on the wrist. The current Exp I, DJ41, etc., have bigger dials than the Sub/Gmt, and I think they look bigger on the wrist, despite the outside diameter similarities.
FWIW, Ryan Gosling usually wears a 34mm Rolex these days, if you think 36mm looks small! |

Here is my AirKing - 34mm - on 7.25" wrist. Does it look small? I do not think so. I regret every day for trading it in for another watch. It was my go-to watch with such a quirky dial...

Keep in mind that, being the modern forum, the majority of users in this thread already own a 39mm-40mm Exp I/DJ/DD. Go into the vintage forum and I'd bet you'd get a lot of pro-36mm votes, especially from guys who dropped five figures on a 1016. It's simply a matter of your style.

Normally I recommend the 39mm Explorer I, but based on the pics I would say the 36mm looks best on you and more balanced. The 39mm looks a bit big IMHO, but you may like a slightly larger look. Good luck in your decision. Cheers!

39 looks ok but try the 36 for sure. I have the 36 explorer 1 and for comfort and proportion i like it better than my 14060 and my 16570. My wrist is 7.5 btw. In fact, if I could have just one, it would be the 36mm explorer. The 36 really does wear a little larger than you would think...as someone mentioned, it's all dial. Classic, pure and simple.

I've been saving up and stalking this watch online for months. It's a classic.
I tried this on a few months ago at an AD and it definitely wears larger than most 39-42 ss watches due to the larger dial. Looks like it's wearing you more than you wearing it. If you love it then go for it |
