Keep either new BLNR or 2009 16610 Sub date
I managed to get my hands on a new BLNR today from my AD. I now have to make the decision to either keep it and give my Dad my 2009 Sub or keep Sub and let him have the BLNR.
I love them both it’s 50 50 would love to hear what anyone else would do ? Keeping both is not an option unfortunately. |

Sub is a classic, no doubt on that. Landing a BLNR at an AD is also a good move. Personally the BLNR wins it for me as the two is quite similar to one another and the blue mixes it up abit for me too

If I were your dad I would tell you to keep them both. And give me a...bottle of wine or something.

I’d keep the BLNR.
But maybe ask your dad which one he prefers? |

I too have a 2009 16610 and a 2017 116710LN. Love both watches but if I had to decide to keep one I would keep the 16610.
Good luck! |

Well, the sub is a classic. The blnr maybe one in the future. I'd give your own father the sub. Let him enjoy a classic now and you will have your turn with the blnr when the time comes.

Can you and your date workout a joint custody arrangement? Each get one for 6 months and switch? Both are fantastic, the 5 digit would be superb on a nato

^I'm with these guys. Sub all day. I'm not a fan of the 6-digit GMTs personally. The 16610 is a legendary Rolex reference, and you have one of the last of an era with a 2009.

Oh wow man they are not even remotely close. The new six digits actually look like luxury watches. I own both and the six digit models are so superior to the five digits it’s really not fair to even compare them.
OP the BLNR hands down.

I see. Well even five digit subs cost $5500. You can probably find a non-luxury looking watch for a heck of a lot less than $5500. :-)
Seiko turtle comes to mind. Outstanding diving watch. $400.

I just don't like the looks and weight of the new Rolex stuff. Lately, I've gone to wearing a single watch, which is a Tudor 76200. It has lug holes, weighs all of 82 grams on a folded link Oyster, and there's just nothing more comfortable to wear daily. It even makes my old 16610 and 16570 feel like a lead weight. |

From what I've read the newer movements are more improved. If it's the weight, have you considered changing the solid bracelet of the six-digit version for a hollow 5-digit version? That might be all it takes to make it a bit more comfortable for you. |

FWIW, I find the folded link bracelets, which preceded the 5-digit and 6-digit bracelets, to be more comfortable than either of them, but you also want a light watch head in that equation. Plus, from an aesthetic point of view, there isn't a 6-digit model that interests me, maybe outside of the 36mm OP and new WG/Oysterflex Daytona (but I'd still choose 5-digit versions of both.) Boy, I miss the days of the transition to 6-digit watches, when there were more "5-digit and older only" fans around. It's getting lonely in here. I can't wait for the 5-digit series to move to the vintage forum. p.s. of course, there's also the irony that the 3186 movement in the BLNR has the detent gear issue, which the 3185 never had. |

I love them both but if it were my dad I think he would relate more to the Sub.

Not trying to sound greedy, but why do you have to give one to your dad?
I would also choose BLNR by a mile. I'd flip my sub way before I'd part with my BLNR.
