A great pair to settle with...

I have really been Lucky this last year or so with the watches I've managed to get my hands on, in brexit torn UK especially.

I've cultivated a passion really of just a few brands and a couple of models within those brands. The passion is intentionally moderated by what is my taste aesthetically and also what is justified financially (and then perhaps just a tweak further - it is passion after all, and we only live once).

I've made regrettable mistakes along the way, bought things I didn't like enough, Lost money and most annoying of all - sold some pieces at the wrong time and really taken a bath at times (as my American friends say)...

But also I've picked up some real beauties too. Had the please of handling, owning and loving - some of the watches we all drool over on this site. Its a special feeling to be one of the lucky ones who was able to acquire a rare bear... Occasionally, I've even flipped at the "right time" - never really "made money" - but have compensated myself for the cringe worthy losses along the way....

So with a great experience had, and breaking out "evens" financially - I've ended up here.... For now:

Two magnificent beasts that I adore. Both have been a huge amount of effort to procure, and I think that chase definitely has made me appreciate the kill more...

The 15202 is without a doubt my longest admired piece, I've lusted after it about 5 years now.... Once I started reading more about watches, and what makes up the cream of the crop, this one sang out to me.... The ups and downs of chasing it made it harder and harder to get hold of... three price rises, AP going boutique only with it, missing out on an absolute peach, and of course brexit - all made it incredibly hard to get hold of. It is without a doubt "my grail" save for maybe one day buying an open worked or gold version if I win the lottery.

The 116500 on the other hand was admittedly much more of a flash in the pan infatuation. Its the third Daytona I've been lucky enough to have had, but after loosing big money selling the 116509, and theoretically loosing out selling the 16520 ahead of "its time"... I really felt the Daytona experience was teasing me... I still missed owning one, but for various reasons neither the white gold nor the zenith had ticked all my boxes. So eventually I tried on a 116500 in London grey dealer and loved it. After a lot of schmoozing I got one @rrp...

Now I'm a two watch guy, one more for evenings and relaxing... The other more sporty, gym and everyday. I wish I was of a means to not have to sell in order to buy the next - but I feel lucky to currently have these.

Great pair to have! My 2 favorite brands as well and the 15202 being my favorite AP of all.

Too bad the Daytona is still in stickers. Seems like you're not quite ready to commit.

It is, some may reason, a nice pair of SS to have but now you must direct yoru attentions to GOLD... You can thank me later...

How on earth did you talk a gray dealer into selling you a DayC at RRP?

Excellent pair and congratulations. I've had my 15202 for about 5 months now and I can never see myself parting with it. I could see myself going down to 2 as well - except for me, instead of the 116500, it would be the Patek 5164A.

Beautiful pair, but lets be honest. If you haven't removed the stickers off the 116500 yet, you don't really own it. If you are removing the stickers and are going to wear it, good on ya mate! If not, what's the point.

Cheers,

J

A few comments answered

Thanks for all the complimentary posts, I really appreciate it

Just to explain, it wasn't a grey I got it from, the rrp was achieved from a rolex AD... And took a lot of schmoozing

As for the stickers in the photo - point taken...
We all know, taking the stickers off effectively "costs" a grand or so in resale. But I HAVE decided to keep it, the stickers remaining are so few however, AD took most off and as for the rest - as soon as they "lift" I remove them. I just think the few that are still there provide a little extra protection... I've already scratched it a bit as it is
