NCIS / Mcgee's Daytona

Watching NCIS this season, I have noticed McGee, played by Sean Murray has been wearing a rose gold Daytona 116505 in most episodes. Likely his personal watch.

Good catch. We haven't watched the newer seasons. Maybe we'll try this season.

I love watching movies/shows to try to figure out which watch the actors are wearing! And that RG Daytona on bracelet... WOW!

His character never struck me as a RG Daytona wearer. Maybe Tony...

Haven't watched the last couple seasons... but I've noticed Gibbs through the years has worn a few pieces (not Rolex)

Federal law Enforcement makes more than you think....A GS 13 with..say 15 years in Washington DC would make between $140k-$150k/year.

Oh! That is surprising! Although if you factor in a higher salary like that in a city like DC, i feel you’d still be very financially strapped given the outrageous cost of living there.

Nice catch, I think that Gibbs and Tony were always Omega Guys.

That’s some heavy metal for a daily wearer in civil service. No offense meant or anything like that. Just wouldn’t expect it. I don’t watch the show nor do I know anything other than it’s an investigation show. I would expect the character to be some level of police detective?

IIRC, McGee had a large amount of savings from being a popular author as well as family money. RG Daytona is very possible, he drove a Porsche Boxster for awhile.

DiNozzo wore a Sub for awhile in earlier seasons, while Gibbs wore an Exp II Polar in an episode or two.

Hey Fistrider, respectfully, not quite. I work for Uncle Sam, and an LEO making $140-150k per year would be a near topped out GS14 or mid level GS15 and above. That makes them very senior LEOs and either SAICs or management.

https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-over...CB%20(LEO).pdf

LEOs do make decent pay, but bear in mind two things: (1) they all sign a mobility agreement, meaning move every three years, and that covers the US and overseas. Those I work with have moved all over the world; and (2) they are out at 55.

This is not to say they couldn't get a Daytona in PM mind. I've never seen an LEO wearing a Daytona. Submariners, on the hand, I've seen quite a few of.

Federal Law Enforcment receive “LEAP” law enforcment availability pay, equal to 25% of their salary, in 2017, a GS 13, which is a journey man grade for most Federal Leo’s ranged from $95k-$123k before adding LEAP...which brings a GS13’s take home to some where between $118k-$153k (using Washington DC cost of living COLA) depending on their longevity step. Most GS 14 and 15’s hit a statutopay cap of around $164k due to their included LEAP.

Flst, my apologies. I forgot to add the LEAP.

Well as a peon Court Clerk in L.A. I was sporting a two tone Sub on 60 a year.

Now a better job and a better watch. Daytona.

It is not how much you make but what you want to spend it on. ;)

Sorry to be late to this party but there’s actually a really cool little subplot or something here. I just watched EP 1 of Season 15 where McGee and Gibbs escape from captivity being held by the warlord in Paraguay. Anyway, when McGee and Gibbs bust in on the warlord guy and tie him up etc, McGee is seen looking around at the bad guy’s desk, picking up a watch and putting it on. You can’t really see him do it clearly and can’t see what watch it is. I just saw him clipping the bracelet while action is really elsewhere on the screen. Next episode (or later in the same) I noticed the Rolex! So - spoils of war and I think an interesting and kinda badass character development move. I wonder if it was even in the script.

Frankly NCIS agents would not be wearing a RG Daytona. Kinda odd he wouldn’t wear a character appropriate watch.

I honestly didn't notice that until I rewatched it (i admit I haven't seen that episode in four years). I guess that explains how McGee got his Rolex. He did seem to own various different watches later on though.

He also gave away a 5 digit gmt to someone as a reward. Now I see him wearing a 6 digit gmt Pepsi.

Yeah, as a highly successful novelist he should be wearing a Day Date. As a science nerd he should be wearing a Milgauss. And as a detective/law enforcement officer he should wear a Sub Date. But one thing he's not is a race car driver. So out of keeping. Oh wait, as a human being he can wear whatever watch he wants.

No, that is not the explanation.

During one season McGee wrote a best-selling book and became rich. He bought the Daytona fpr himself and received the usual gaff that we even see on this thread about an Agent with a watch like that.

They used that sub-plot and his book characters during several seasons.

McGee isn't just an agent as a character, he is a best selling, wealthy, author.

I'm sure there are some law enforcement officers who wears a Rolex out there. He doesn't have to wear a watch that fits his job.

Admittedly, I have not seen any of this season's episodes of NCIS, but I do know that (the character) Abby Sciuto, pictured in the 2nd and 3rd photos above, left at the end of season 15, in 2018.
