Need Help - Which to keep 116500 or 5167?

I am in the process of decluttering my life and personal items. Therefore, I only need / want ONE watch going forward and trying to decide if I want to keep my 116500 c black Daytona or sell for a new PP 5167.

I've had a 5167 in the past, but sold it once it stopped working 18 months later for no apparent reason. I like the fact it was so light and comfortable on the wrist and very legible. Conversely, the Rolex Daytona and bracelet are probably the most comfortable in the sport lineup while the black dial enhances the legibility. The Daytona is somewhat heavier, but not to the point of being uncomfortable at all.

I am not interested in any other models or PM alternatives. Your help is appreciated.

if i went down to only one watch, my 5164A would be the one as its that great of an all around piece. In your situation I would pick the 5167.

Daytona is a keeper. There is not a better value proposition in the industry for $12,400 (assuming you paid retail). It is much harder to get and a classic and every WIS should have one Rolex IMO. I personally dislike every current ceramic Rolex model with the blocky case and lugs. The Daytona Case didn’t experience much change at all from the 116520 and I like that. 5167 is very cool but I prefer the versatility and ceramic bezel on the Daytona

Excellent points. I did pay retail for the Daytona and getting another at retail would be challenging. The case is perfect and I’m not a fan of the supersizing. As for the bezel, I knocked it against a door frame yesterday and wiped a piece of wood and paint of the crystal. 5167 probably wouldn’t have looked very good after that.

Tough choice. Out of those two I’d be inclined to keep the Daytona.

If you would entertain alternatives, it’s not a one and only for me. We are here to help if you go down that road

hard decision, both very desirable watches. Personally I would keep Daytona, one of the reasons is because I have to do extra effort to keep a brush bezel form blemishes, plus there are a lot of situations that you simply can't wear the aquanaut. Simple situations like playing with your kids make you think twice and say I better take it off for this one. Daytona is more versatile in that regard, not to mention the crazy demand for it.

Excellent point. Still can't get over the fact the 5167 stopped working after a year and half. So unacceptable.

I have a 67 but am on the Daytona bandwagon on this one. Hold. Daytona longer warranty, faster and cheaper to service and more rugged.

Beautiful watches bro , but thats not the situation the OP is.
He has to do all with one watch. In your case works because you have the speedy, which can take care of the situations where the 5167 fails short.

Going down to one watch, I would chose Rolex over Patek most of the time. Rolex is more versatile and rugged compared to Patek. Hard decision since both are great watches but I would keep the Daytona.

I know you said, no suggestions for other watches, but I'd say the 5164 makes a perfect one watch. I am strongly considering it on my end.

Counterintuitively, if it is between the 116500 and 5167 only, then I'd say 116500. The reason is because I find the 5167 a bit plain for a only watch, it's thinner and feels delicate at times.

Hard decision and OP has some soul searching.....I'd tend toward the 5167 for a 1 watch although I'm not even an Aquanaut fan...simply because I believe it's a sleeker/more legible piece with a more useful complication for most people (date...). The Daytona would be more rugged/dependable though but I think with regular service they'd both serve just as well. Depends on how important the chronograph is to the OP I guess.

Another thing that would have me hesitant for a Patek as an only watch is the very long servicing times. I'm hearing 6 months and up is the norm?

There's a reason I posted this here vs. the Rolex section. Overwhelmingly Rolex sided which says something. Leaning towards the Daytona and as for the date, a nice complication but chrono adds more variety vs. a time date function.

I would too, in this case. But as mentioned above, what will you use during service time, regardless of the watch you choose? Always a dilemma for a OWG, I suppose!

Thanks guys. Probably holding onto the Daytona. The way the light hits the black dial is mesmerizing and pretty cool.
