Thoughts on Cellini Prince?

I have an opportunity to purchase a NOS Cellini Rolex Prince like this one at a very favorable price. Like 50% off retail.

I'm guessing this watch was not too popular in the marketplace, since it's no longer made.

What do other think of this watch? Is it a dog or a future collectible?

I don’t think it’s a dog, and I doubt it will be a future collectible.

Setting that aside, I think it’s a great looking watch. Patek’s Gondolfo, JLC’s Reverso, this Cellini, all have a neat look in the tonneau case style. If you’re not going to sell it, then it makes for an easier decision. If you’re not sure you’ll keep it, get the best price you can because the potential buyer pool is going to be small.

Does it have a clear caseback? A few Cellini Princes (model 5440, 5441, 5442, 5443) have exhibition casebacks. The only Rolexes that do, afaik

I love them, and think they are cool. I'd love to find a YG one, but I've got a few other watches in line before I do.

Yes it does, along with a decorated movement.

Make a great dress watch.

I would go for it. It's a great reference and has a cool feature of the clear caseback. I heavily doubt it will become a expensive collectable, it would have by now if it was going to. Nonetheless, it would be a cool watch to own.

I am a fan of the YG Cellini Prince, and one is on its way to me. I believe you can do better on than a 50% discount on the WG models as I have seen selling prices lower than $7000 from reputable sellers.

I am not sure if it is seasonable or if something else is happening, but it took me longer to find a YG model at a reasonable price than I expected.

It may be collectible due to some unique features like the decorated movement and the exhibition case back, but that is not my reason for purchasing. I think it makes an excellent "does not look like a Rolex, but is a" Rolex with everything that implies about design, build quality, and ease of service.

Just got one from SAM's club closing down sale and I'm really taking a shine to it. Lightweight, simple and clean. Unassuming to the eye. Always room for a little negotiation on price. Picture to follow soon but it's the exact model listed.

I like them a lot. It is doubtful they would be future collectable but it is a great watch. Also I am a big fan of the clasp..

The Prince is a fantastic watch. Not recognizable to the untrained eye, but still a Rolex and precious metal. And, as powerfunk mentioned, you get a clear view into the movement for once! Go for it, you'll love it!

Very fond of the Cellini Prince line.
This is my favourite model. The 5443.

I purchased a WG Prince for under $7k online. Just dropped it off with my AD for service -- or else I would post some pics. I definitely will when it comes back!

Personally I think this is an under appreciated value proposition!

I think it is a great piece! If you feel the same, buy it!
