Need advice: 14060M or 16710BLRO to pass down to my son?

For some quick background, a few months ago I purchased a 14060M to wear daily and be able to pass down to my son one day when he's old enough (he's just 3 now). I absolutely love that watch, it's great, one of the best daily watches imaginable. But I couldn't quite shake the bug for a 16710BLRO either, even back when I was buying the 14060M. So last week I came across a good deal on the 16710 and pulled the trigger. After wearing the watch for a week, I absolutely love it. It's so comfortable on the wrist and the Pepsi bezel is just great to look at. It's everything I thought it would be, and I can see why it gets such high praise on this forum.

But I still truly love the 14060M too, and am having trouble picking just one watch. As far as functionality goes, I really don't use the functionality of either. I won't ever go diving in the 14060M, rarely ever travel so I won't use the GMT complication on the 16710, and don't have a strong feeling either way on the date. It almost purely comes down to aesthetics for me.

Regarding keeping both -- I suppose that's an option, but I'd truly just like to keep and wear both so that I can give my son "Dad's watch" one day.

I've searched for other threads similar to this one and have read all sorts of good advice, I guess this thread is more me just getting it off my chest as much as anything else. Always appreciate any thoughts y'all can offer.

Perhaps this is just one of those "can't go wrong" type situations.

He’s gonna get both eventually anyway so I say keep them both. He’ll see you wearing both of them over the years and when it’s time, let him pick his favorite. Then, you still have the other to wear until he gets it by inheritance. Plus, what if kid #2 shows up, then you’ve already got his/her watch sorted out too.

As opposed to Dad's "watches?" Is there some law I don't know about that says you can only inherit one watch?

You’d be crazy not to keep both unless you really needed the $

Dad's Watch !!!

Your kid is going to want the latest Time-Chip-Implant when he turns 18. Get the watch that you want and want to be identified with and let him decide if that even makes it to his radar about what he wants to remember about Dad.

The GMT BLRO is worth more now and it's value will only continue to increase in real terms and relative to the Sub's. Don't know if that's a factor for you.

You said you won't use/need either the Sub's excess WR capability or the GMT's multiple time zone function, but one thing that GMT ref has is the ability to do the Sub can't is "change it's spots". It's far more versatile when it comes to aesthetics, having 3 bezel insert options. Pick up Red/Black and all-Black bezel inserts and one can change it's look day-to-day, DIY.

3-watches-in-1 versatility plus more valuable, the GMT gets my vote if you must keep only one.

Keep both and when the time comes, have them both serviced and let him pick which one he wants

Both are winners, i'd keep both if possible. Rotate every week, you'll get an idea which one he likes more as he grows older. Give him that one and keep the other for yourself.

If u can keep both than definitely keep both. If not wear them each for a few days and the answer should be a lot clearer to you.

If you can only keep one I'd keep the 16710. When your son is ready, wearing "Dad's watch" will be special for sure

Keep both. I am assuming you would like to be alive when he gets it? If so, you will still need one for yourself. :)

What you own is a great two watch collection and could be worn in a rotation for years and never get old. I like the saying, "Two is one and one is none." I learned this lesson years ago when I had to have my one and only watch serviced and it was gone for about three months. I used this as one of my excuses to buy a second and off to the races we went. Sit tight and enjoy.

16710 and get another bezel insert in all black if you want it to be less sporty. Then you have two watches in one

Definitely a can't go wrong situation. I totally get what you're thinking about you just being associated with a single watch. If you're only going to keep one, I think the 16710 is a more "special" piece. A Sub is a great watch, but the Pepsi will really stand out.

+1000. I’d say there’s equal chance it could either end up on a wrist or in a drawer. Buy what you like today.

Both beautiful watches. I have them both as well. Rotate between the 2 of them every other day. That way he’ll see you wearing them both. When the time comes ask him to choose. But don’t be surprised if he wants them both.

^^^This

Keep and enjoy both classics, they are great watches. Let your son chose the one for him. Eventually, he will have both unless you are not blessed with another kid. I have two daughters and way too many watches :) I already know that my firstborn girl will get 14060M Submariner (she wears Ice watch, Sub style and loves it), the youngest 16570T Explorer II. I pray that they are healthy and happy to enjoy the watches as I do. Iwill be the old fart wearing my vintage Speedy (the watch is already 35 years old) and my vintage Sinns, Panerai, Nomos and Guinand watches.

My 14060M before I discovered the beauty of its ratty bracelet (I was a partisan for a year or so against the bracelet) and my daughter's Ice watch which I picked in Belgium (where it is made in fact). Interestingly the cheap Ice watch bezel began to fade and now it has a cool ghost effect.

The Sub in the picture is with the Fat Four bezel. I recently discovered that this bezel is somewhat rare.
Still looking for more info about it... If someone can help me with info about it, I will be very grateful.

And I'll make a prediction that in a couple months you'll be posting for suggestions on a third watch!

Whichever you settle on, be sure to get it serviced regularly for best longevity.

Both are great watches if you can keep both then do. If you get rid of either you will regret it later. You can always pass both watches to your son
