16710 originality

Being offered this watch and considering it as a "beater" to complement my 16750 matte when I want a water proof/etc watch. It is a W serial, it has papers. I know the dial is not original. Appears to be a Swiss Made service dial. Is the bezel correct for the watch? Have not seen the stamping on bracelet yet. Im thinking of offering $5000-5500 knowing the issues. Am I low or high? Dealer took this in against a new watch. Thanks guys!

Something about the date wheel doesn't sit right with me...the font is off. Don't mean to give you any worries but something I noticed right away. I could be way off base here...here is a comparison:

do you think it is the date wheel or the crystal? i agree that the magnification of the cyclops doesnt seem as strong as the watch you listed. tough to tell from one picture as the angle the photo is being taken could impact the perspective.

It looks good to me. I think it’s the lighting, dirty cyclops and the fact that the second picture is zoomed in
It All Checks fine to me!

I would not pay $5K for it, but it may be worth it. The replacement dial would always raise a question in my mind as to "why" it was replaced. For a "beater" aquatic watch, there are so many alternatives from $50-$5,000.

If the markers don't glow anymore. ie the tritium is dead Rolex will replace the whole dial with a luminova one. No big deal really and fairly common. Although we'd rather have original dials that don't work this isn't indicative of the average Rolex owner.

It looks good to me. The dial is just a newer dial. Could have been replaced simply because the old tritium lume wasn’t working anymore. Would likely of had a new hand set at the same time. Nothing wrong with that unless having it totally original is what you’re after.
For the money, it seems ok.

I had my dial replaced due to lack of lume. During a regular service at an RSC the cost of the new dial was $500. Just tuck that tidbit away and figure that into your offer for the watch.

Def requires some up close research...

The date, the dial, and no one has yet mentioned the large gaps between the crown guard... they should hug closer.

Nothing against your dealer whatsoever, but this one looks a little off... even with 'papers'.

It has a rectangular ‘error’ dial which some go mad for. A light polish and a Pepsi insert and you’ll be good to go.

What do you know about the seller?

Does he have a rep for used Watches...or does he just sell “stuff.”

Well as an AD, he’s not too particular on his trade ins.

I wouldn’t want it. It’s pretty beat up and the lugs are more worn down than I’d care for.
