LOW maintenance vs HIGH maintenance Rolex!!

Hi guys,

So most of us own at least one Rolex or maybe even more.

Question is: Do you have a LOW maintenence Rolex or one that is going to rip your hands and legs off in the event of a mishap?

I have BOTH - My Sub can be considered as a LOW maintenance Rolex. Scratch the bezel and it's cheap to replace the anodized aluminium insert. The brushed finished bracelet does NOT pick up scratches, etc. The watch can be used without a care or worry.

Platty - HIGH maintenance - scratch that Platinum bezel and cannot even be buffed. Replacement will cost a bloody bomb!! Centre links are polished and can scratch easily. Clasp is polished and can scratch easily. Have to be EXTRA careful with it and wary at all times.

That's probably the MAIN reason why it gets just around 30% wrist time as compared with Subby.

16613, little bit of both, the center links scratch if you lookat them funny but a little soap and water and the thing sparkles like a new penny!

Agreed....at least the bezel insert is relatively cheap to replace.

Indeed, every time I wear my day-date I notice a new scratch, but hey you have to enjoy them!

I'm with you JJ.....

I don't worry about my 16610 at all, whereas I'm more careful with my 16623. I've only had it for about 6 weeks and the polished gold center links are already a bit scratched.... Oh well!

As for my 116234, it's somewhere in the middle. I don't worry about the jubilee bracelet as you can't see scratches at all. But I am more concerned about the white gold bezel!

For sure, but I should have bought stock in Cape Cod clothes considering how much I buy their product

Hmmm...with the TT YM, you will have to take a little extra care of the centre gold links, Karis; but the good news is that they can still be buffed.

The WG bezel on your DJ won't pose too much of a problem because of the way it's designed. The zig-zag fluted bezel would need a real WHACK to pick up a noticeable scratch - other than that you should be okay.

But, hey, you are a lady with so much grace and charm. So why on earth would you go around knocking your beautiful watches?

The LV would definitely be a lower maintenance watch as compared with the GMT-IIC, but I would still prefer the latter.

JJ, judging by how many watches Zemina has bought you, it seems that you are very HIGH maintenance!

Just the centre gold links and gold clasp you would need to take care of; but the good news is they can be polished by a good watchmaker.

The two Rolex in my daily wear rotation I would say are fairly high maintenance due to the PCL's mostly.

But hey, that's what I bought em' for. RSC can make them new again at their first oil change!

SS Daytona's and Gold DD's scratch too easy.

It's nearly impossible to scratch my Platinum DD. Diamond protection! I wear it everyday, and the AD often asks if I wear it at all from its condition.

Sounds like a debate between the old style tool watches and the more recent "impact" watches. Pity if people are worried about damaging watches to the detriment of wearing them for the purpose they were made............ maybe buy some vintage. But then again some of them are worth so much you are going to have the same paranoia

I don't worry about the cosmetic maintenance of my watches, exept for the 249. That plexi on it has me a bit concerned about marking it up.
I think all my watches have some sort of battle scar.
As for maintenance time through the service centre, the 98 , 190 & 233 have me a bit concerned as these are GP, JLC & In house movements that may cost a few pennies to refurbish, should they need it.
Still cheaper than replacing the tyres on my car last month.

Don't they give you an extra plexi with the 249 John?

All Rolex's are low maintenance. It's the owners that are the high maintenance objects.
