Thanks for those! It is an amazing piece

Hoping that perhaps my name will come up on the list for this piece sometime in 2020...

Wow...is it really that hard to come by? Sorry for my ignorance if this should have been obvious.

I love that watch. Would really love to have one, but just can’t justify the money for a SS piece.

Actually I think this "waitlist" is pure BS. Even when its your turn, if some VVIP comes along asking for one, they are going to be allocated before you.

Absolutely. I’m realistic enough to accept that I can’t keep up with the big boys in HK or SG.

Yes...I recently spoke with a sales person at one of the boutiques in Asia who said that their 2018 allocation was already sold...so maybe my name will come up in 2019

However, per the posts above, there are plenty of people in HK and Singapore who spend USD100k+++(++++) per year with AP who will clearly get preference in allocation for pieces in limited supply

I heard that the requirement of purchasing 15407 from boutique in Hong Kong is simply buying a tourbillon from them 1st.

That's exactly what I have been told also, or rather "hinted" strongly. AP toubillons start at One million HKD or more I think.

thanks but no thanks. That is pretty insulting to their customers IMO. You come to expect this type of stuff from an independent AD, but not from AP themselves.

Its amazing how narrow this hobby sometimes makes your thinking. Take a step back and see the bigger picture, and its already a little weird to spend 50K on a watch, any watch. Then for the opportunity to buy a 50K watch you must buy a 200k other watch first. Its ridiculous.

Id save the money and buy it on the grey market if i wanted it that bad. Its a bargain vs buying a watch you might not even want in addition.

Thanks for the kind words! :) Thinking of borrowing a friend's lightbox to get some even better macro shots of this guy in the near future.

Definitely disappointed to hear that AP Boutiques are possibly using this watch to leverage other sales. During my hunt for one, I called up most of the boutiques in Asia and physically visited the ones in HK and Taiwan. While most of them informed me that they were not taking any more names on their wait lists, none of them hinted that I would have to purchase something else to be 'allowed' to buy a 15407. In fact they were all very courteous and almost apologetic that they did not have one to sell me on the spot. I guess YMMV, and I feel super fortunate that I was able to get my hands on one! GL to all on the hunt!

Think so too. Maybe they have an algorithm that goes something like "if no VVIP appears in 1 month, then release 1 piece to next on list" so technically there is still a wait list haha.

This is just crazy, but shows perfectly the warped world of in demand, high luxury watches, or should I say very low, manipulated supply models. Same with Patek and the 5711 and 5522 which, even with the new price rise, is cheap as chips by comparison. Supply really needs to be increased to prevent such exploitative methods being employed, it was bad enough when it was greys but now even ADs can't resist the temptations of absolute power.

If I am told that by APNY I am out. Not playing that game. If purchasing 5 APs and not flipping a single one does not qualify me to by a 44K ss watch, F'em.

They absolutely maintain a file for each customer and how much they have spent at the boutique. And invites and special pieces are offered accordingly.

Yup, I was told I'd get one in 2018, emailed a few weeks ago to confirm and was told they'd all been allocated to loyal customers who preferred to pay full prices at the boutique and would therefore be rewarded over those like me who were always so concerned with saving 10k per purchase.

It was a very rude, very stiff, very snooty email from a representative of a company I've spent, oh, 250k or so on over the years?

ive learned personally that they dont care if you buy a lot of watches from an AD. If its not a boutique then it doesnt count. Makes me reconsider why i didn't just buy grey market the whole time as they act like that is what you did anyway.

Why have "authorized" dealers in the first place? Its not like we are freeloaders here.

And, to the comment above me - exactly. I wasn't buying off the street. I asked the boutique for a summer edition, was promised one all, well, summer. It never materialized, but one did at Material Good, so I bought it there at full price.

The problem with the loyalty game is that it's not reciprocal. I could buy 10 watches from the boutique full price and they could double super promise me an openwork or the 15202IP, but the second the VVVIP who bought 11 watches from them comes in, it's his.

I don't have the juice to compete against masters of the universe and royalty.

Beyond that, I went in last year to try on the RG openwork, on which someone else had already put a deposit. When she saw how much I liked it, she offered to sell it to me on the spot. I was surprised, because someone else had put down money to reserve it, and was told that if I paid in full now, it was mine.

Again, no loyalty.

Now that’s not on!

I’m aware wait lists are dynamic and there’s bigger fish who can jump the line but to sell a watch a deposit was taken on well... it’s just not cricket!

I am totally agree with you Neil.
Some watch are in very high demande and because the PP, Rolex or AP keep low suply the grey market are growing! Maybe they are not interested about us the buyerd but it’s good to them to know in the end we the buyers keep this market!

The 5990 might be the best way to hit a six now.

This forum is becoming more like a support group everyday, it's ridiculous when you consider the amounts we spend on simple "old tech" watches, but no one else will understand

I think the message from these brands are quite clear. Throw us money, lots and lots of it, and don't you dare ask for any discount and we might, just might, consider to grant you the privilege of buying one of our exquisite timepiece.

There might come a point where if buying the watches I want is becoming such a hassle, either switch to other brands or when push comes to shove, just stop buying completely. There are many other things one can spend our hard earned money.

On a side note, I have been quietly adding quite a number of Seikos ( and Grand Seikos ) to my collection. I know most of us here will thumb their noses at Seiko, but they make some really fine watches regardless of price range. Makes me question why I am spending so much on Swiss watches.

Allow me to share a picture of my recent purchase, which really has to be seen to be appreciated. A Seiko pressage "Starlight" with a mesmerizing blue dial.

This watch has not left my wrist since I got it 10 days ago. And this is 1/100th of the price of a 5711.

Happy weekends
