Help! 5164R or....

Hey Everyone!

I was offered a brand new 5164R for my rose gold royal oak chrono (new brown dial).
Do you think it’s a fair trade?

Hold on - is your RO on strap or on bracelet?

If on bracelet, then I'd keep the RO. If on strap, it's a no brainer - you're coming out way ahead.

No it’s on bracelet. That’s why I’m having a dilemma over here...

No, I'd get a 5711R in that case. Brown dial is more vibrant on it than on the Aqua as well.

Funny thing is over the summer I traded in my 5711R for the AP because it was too plain and boring...Now the 5711R is selling 10K more than i bought it...

Funny, I sold my RG ROC to eventually get the 5711R, and it's far from boring, but more discrete than the AP.

Value retention/increase is not everything in this hobby.
Important factor to consider, no question, but not the only factor to determine the purchase. Just buy right and buy the watch that brings you joy.
If that was the case, you may as well buy Daytonas and 5711’s , lol

I love the design of the 5164, and have the SS myself, but that AP bracelet is a work of art, but it looks like you want something new so go for it.

As much as I love Patek - I would not do the trade. The RO on bracelet is a work of art. Flashier, but the craftmanship on the bracelet is really second to none. Not to take anything away from the 5164R - it's an incredible piece, but just that I wouldn't trade what you have now for that simply because it's on a strap.

Now, a real trade would be your ROC plus cash for a 5980/1R. Gosh I still dream about it after trying it on.

If the chrono on bracelet is too much, I would also consider the 5980R on strap, fabulous piece.

I was thinking of the 5980R! But the prices dramatically rose. The AD’s that have one (IF they have one) are giving zero discounts. You can’t get a 5980R even in the grey market with good discounts...And i don’t like to pay full price

I’d rather pay full retail for a watch I want than get a discount on a watch I don’t, particularly if the watch I want is, in reality, not selling for a discount anyway. Buy what you really want in this hobby, it’s the cheapest way in the long run. My 2-cents.

Is it the same for the 5711R these days? Zero discounts??

There are still discounts to be had from the right dealer, don’t give up yet. It depends on how far you want to push it, but I wouldn’t believe an AD who doesn’t have one saying that.

Owning both SS versions of these watches I would not make a trade.

AP ROC is a rather special watch, in particular when in gold. I find its design being much more appealing as a gold watch comparing to 5164 which is more sporty with the tropical strap, and would remain as such as a gold version

It's a fair trade. The gold ROC has higher MSRP but 5164r should hold its value better and might worth more than the gold ROC down the road.

But it really comes down to which style you prefer more. Bracelet or strap, chronograph or gmt.

Personally I would take the brand new 5164r. It's much harder to find a 5164 than a AP ROC.
