Help a girl choose - DJ TT or Black dial w/ Diamonds?

Hi, I usually read but rarely post... seems a lot of posters here are male, which is great. I have polled my girlfriends, so it will be interesting to hear some male opinions!

Help me choose - I currently have a 31mm very simple silver dial for everyday wear. I am looking for a dressier Rolex, so I have narrowed it down to the 36mm DJ black dial with diamonds, or two-tone DJ with white dial. They are both approximately the same price.

I want something that is eye catching and dressy as my current Rolex is quite simple.

Some of my considerations:
  • I don't have any yellow gold jewelry and I tend to choose white metals. Both my Love and JUC are white.
  • However, I find myself drawn to the two tone as it screams classic Rolex to me. Do you agree with this, in your opinion is the two tone more classic and timeless than all white?
  • I'm not sure if yellow gold would even complement my skin tone... opinions please?
  • I don't want a watch that looks too similar to the one I currently have.
  • I love diamonds on the dial but getting both diamonds and two tone together are more than I would want to spend, so it's kind of either-or at this point.

current watch:

choices!!!

If you were going two tone I'd say get the SS/RG DJ41 with brown dial. It is a real eyecatcher. 41 is not too big as its actually 39mm and that is only 3mm more than 36mm which is really nothing. The colours kind of look like Louis Vuitton and it is stunning.

These days the two tone with champaign dial is OK but I just feel it is a watch for a more senior years person.

Otherwise I'd recommend the black dial, that will highlight the diamonds.

My wife has a similar steel DJ. It’s a very clean look. Timeless. She’s also been rocking some of my YG watches lately. Looks hot!!! I’m not big on TT.

I’m liking the black dial with diamonds over the two tone. That silver dial 31mm you have is a really good combo with your rings. My wife wears a sub date SS with her platinum rings.

This!

While a black dial works great on guys I think that particular two tone would look lovely on you. The coloured dial would give you the colour you'll need with certain attire.

Different enough from your daily Oyster Perpetual Date, and the rose gold would compliment your complexion perfectly.

Have you tried on the Rose gold two tone? It's a lovely color and I think only Rolex and Cartier gets that color perfectly.

I’d go black dial with diamonds. Good variety. I’m not a two tone fan though. If you don’t usually wear yellow gold, I’d stick with what you like.

I'd say the TT, it's simply gorgeous. You already said is the one that you are drawn to the most, the silver Dj you already have does the job great for a watch that will go with everything. You are over thinking with how gold will go with your skin tone. Seriously, is just a watch.

I have several different Datejusts, and all of them are two tone, because two tone works for me. I have all kinds of dial colors and configurations, some with diamonds (i love diamonds btw) and some without. My current daily wear is like the two tone to posted a picture of, only mine has a silver dial. Needless to say, the DJ is my favorite model.

Now, you mentioned not having any yellow gold jewelry, and you prefer white metals. You also mention the yellow may not work with your skin tone. Then there is the mention that buying a two tone with diamond dial is more than you would like to spend.

Being that you like white metals, and have no yellow gold jewelry, you can always go with a steel DJ with a white gold fluted bezel. And you can also opt for the oyster bracelet instead of the jubilee which will give the watch a different look from what you have. You can also get diamonds set on a jubilee dial rather than the standard dials. I believe you can even get a pink mother of pearl dial in the steel and white gold DJ, but that dial alone will set you back a great deal of money.

As for the classic look, nothing looks more classic than a DJ. (my opinion) I don't think steel and yellow gold look any more classic than the all steel or the steel and white gold model. After all, the DJ is what put Rolex on the map even before the day date and the professional models came out. Something to keep in mind .... At the end of the day, it is you who has to wear the watch, so you must do what makes you happy. If you want diamonds, then by all means. I think diamonds add a special personal touch. Whichever watch you choose, enjoy it in best of health!! .... I am enclosing a couple of pictures of the watches I mentioned so you can get a visual idea of what I'm talking about.

Your current watch is the perfect size. I’d say TT SS/RG 31 Datejust with a black dial.

Which is not at all what you asked for, but I think it would look great

I like the size of the watch your wearing as it looks perfect to me.

My girl is trying to decide between blue fluted diamond dial and the fluted meteorite diamond dial. I was surprised she like the metiorite dial so much.

Fellow female here. I have to agree that the size of your current watch is perfect on you. Going up in size would give you a sportier look vs the dressier look that you’re wanting to attain. Have you considered staying at 31, or possibly even dropping to the 28?

For your choices, I’d vote for the tt with white or MOP dial, with rose gold or yellow gold jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. Even if you mostly wear white gold/platinum it will still go with the watch.

Good luck and post photos of what you get!

I think a two-tone "gentleman's" size Rolex works nicely on a woman's wrist.

So you want something more dressy?
Going by your pic i would stick with the same size watch.
It suits you very well.
Also the white metals look equally good on you so it's a choice between SS or WG, or a combination of SS and WG. I agree that another colour metal may not be suitable.
Platinum would be absolutely wonderful but a couple of steps more dressy and definately out of the price range.

Maybe you could go down a size and add Diamonds.
I think what ever you choose, a fluted bezel would be a requirement and maybe you could stretch your budget to a White MOP dial for some extra bling.

I'm not so sure about a Black dial on you though.
I typically associate a Black dial with sports watches like the Sub.

As many have said, your current watch selection is flawless for any occasion.

Neither of the other two choices particularly draw me. I think for dressier, you have to stay jubilee. I'm not much of a two tone fan. Gold would of course be dressier, but I, like you rarely wear gold. I might be inclined toward a MOP or meteorite dial.

I bough a good friend of mine a 36mm DJ last year on her big Birthday, she's been down on her luck and could never afford one. I think it's an aftermarket dial, but she is still thrilled with it, she loves how it can be dressed down or up.

My advice is keep with 31mm, it fits you very well. As said earlier larger is sportier, dress watches are generally smaller. I think your skin tone would work with YG, RG too. I'm not a TT fan for myself but do think certain models look better than others in it, smaller DJ's are one.

That said get the size you want. A 36, even 39, will only look large and sportier next to your OP. You aren't going to wear them at the same time (right?). So who cares. There are many interesting/fun/ dressy dial options for the DJ but they can increase price pretty quickly. If you're set on one of these two I'd suggest TT as it would add the most variety to your watch choices. The good news is there's no wrong choice.
