Somewhere I saw that Threads are already starting to look at the next James Bond watch, for whatever movie comes after. At the same time, we're still only around half-way into The Ian Fleming Centenary, so I figured, hey, that should be offered as a factor as well.
To put a slightly different spin on things, I'm asking for your thoughts on "how" the next 007 timepiece should be chosen. As always, feel free to comment below. And this time, I'll make it a secret ballot. Thanks! Now let the voting (and debate) begin. ![]()

The 'how' makes it a difficult question. How can mean anything. But because Bond's gadget days are over, the choice of his watch has been reduced to something of a moot point. His navy grey Bentley never made it to film anyway and even Seiko were so kind to plunk down enough cash to get their watch around Bonds' wrist. So if Omega are so kind to sponsor the next Bond flick you have your answer.
Although the Sub was never mentioned in the novels I still would like to make a strong case for the new (non date) Sub. Rolex don't need the exposure anymore but let it be known that I'm asking them to supply Craig with a Sub for the next movie. Or 11, the number of Aston Martins that were wrecked for the opening scene of The Quantum of Solace.

If rumours are true it could go back to Rolex as read somewhere on the net that Omegas deal is up in 2009 and as next movie not due till 2010 its open house so could go to anyone who puts the money on the table

I like the Idea of Omega as the James Bond brand.
It helps promote brand recognition, and has worked on me twice...and I'm grateful for it because I looove my PO and Smp, and even picked up an Aqua terra because I like the brand so much...before Bond, I hadn't been aware of Omega...But everyone already knows Rolex... Rolex doesn't need Bond. The only suggestion I would have for Omega would be to really get their money's worth and use the films as a showcase for their line... Ditch the gimmicky special edition watches... Just have everyone in the movie wearing an Omega...put a constellation on M A deville big date on Leiter...a swatch on the Villain... And if Bond's watch doesn't do tricks, then there's no reason to keep him in one model the whole film...if he's in a tux...a croc leather deville would better serve him than a 42mm SMP...but trekking through the desert...PO on Rubber...is perfect... business casual...SMP... Just as he should showcase designer suits and fashion, his watches should complete the outfit... I think Omega dropped the ball a bit on QoS with 2 gimmick watches and putting the big PO on his wrist in situations where it didn't belong ( it does not go with a Tom Ford suit or a Tuxedo...sorry) I hope Omega renews the contract, but takes it to the next level... |

Dell, I read a post that you wrote where you basically stated that Bond should wear a fashionable and rugged watch that was a luxury brand. Those are the only criteria that mattered, you argued. I'm paraphrasing, but I think that was your point. I liked your take on it so much that I voted to let the producers decide.

![]() To be honest, the argument you reference here doesn't immediately come to mind; I do recall citing recently one of the watch magazines that talked about Rolex being "immediate currency" anywhere in the world, if needed, and thinking (if not arguing) that that would be a criteria I think should be considered for a secret agent watch. My goodness-- when you consider the impression one gets that Daniel Craig as James Bond does nothing but go rogue, and M cutting off his funds all the time, I think it would make for a great scene (and emphasis of value) if he were able to take off his watch and hand it over for a much-needed airline ticket for quick escape from Timbuktu. Seriously: I'd never want to hold myself out as someone to define the James Bond watch. First and foremost, I actually believe that must begin with Ian Fleming, and a thoughtful, thorough look at that. Hence my vote for option #1. So that's actually my perspective on this. Thanks for the feedback -- and for voting! ![]()

Bond hands over the Rolex to hard faced pawnbroker. Said broker gives the watch a quick once over, shakes his head disapprovingly and takes a couple of quick snaps from several angles. He then disappears mysteriously into the back room. He emerges in what seems like an eternity with a wry smile on his face. "I'll give you two thousand, not a cent more !" he proclaims, "Terry Newton and Steve Mulholland reckons its ok and that's a fair price". ![]() ![]()
