I read on another forum that a RSC replaced the hands on a 214270 Mk I with the updated Mk ii hands to get it up to current spec. Anyone else heard of this?

Doesn't sound right to me. 'Current spec' also has a different dial.

I would think you could get the "long hands" if that's your goal.

Different countries have different rules, as per Rolex, so you'll have to ask/confirm

I would want it to stay all original, but I heard of a RSC doing it automatically and without owner even realizing until he received it.

I asked RSC Dallas last year if I could replace the hands/dial to the new ones, and they said yes, but they didn’t have them in stock. Someone else had done it through another RSC and had to order them from Switzerland, IIRC.

Somewhat related to this but a coworker of mine has a beautiful 1016 that i noticed and asked him about. He had no idea about the value but told me he had it serviced some time ago and it was clear they replaced the hands during the service. I didnt want to break the news to him!

I think lume color is different for MK1 and MK2. So, just replacing hands will not make it to current spec.

Yes, the Mk1 dial lume is green while the Mk2 is blue. Just wonder is both of them Chromalight ? I recently dropped Mk1 in for service, ask if they are willing to change the hands/dial, they politely say no.

You should request RSC that you want it to stay original, this should be confirmed before proceeding with the service.

I suppose it is, but the OP made no mention of the dial. Which would also have to be changed.

Nope, MK I lume is also Chromalight blue, there's no difference. Only differences between the two are the dial configuration and the hands.

When I had mine done I was told Rolex will replace hands and dials other parts on any Rolex that happen to come with the reference number. Reference number 214270 versions have short hands with white gold 369 and long hands with full Lume . You can have it in either configuration but not mismatched. Datejust owners swap out dial styles all the time. I was thinking of seeing if Rolex will swap my Black Daytona C dial for a White one. Probably a waiting list on that one chuckle:

Wow! The lume is significantly different.
So putting Mark II hands on a Mark I, would look silly.
TBH, I prefer the aqua coloured lume of the Mark I.

Shot looks doctored, honestly. When has Chromalight ever looked like the lume on the right?

Well this makes much more sense now.

I don't know why Rolex used that Egyptian blue in their marketing. It is not representative at all.

I like my WG 369, but if the minute hand was a little longer I wouldn't be upset. As long as the lume matches. I should be happy with what I have.

It is just not little longer but also more fatter and thicker matching the lounged 369. Not sure how fatty hands will look with WG 369.
